El Arroyo closed down its location in far west Austin yesterday, according to a notice left on the door and pointed out by several tipsters. The Tex Mex restaurant’s original spot on West 5th Street, known for those very mouthy signs, is still open and serving queso, tacos, and margaritas.

An employee of Austin Landmarks, the company that owns the two restaurants, confirmed the Wood Hollow Drive closure, to Eater. He said the lease wasn't renewed because of landlord conflict, and that the space needed to be renovated, but that would have required more time.

The downtown El Arroyo opened in 1975. Austin Landmarks also owns other older, classic Austin restaurants: The Tavern, Hill's Cafe, Star Seeds Cafe, and Abel's Restaurants.
