Last year my Wellsummer hen sat on 17 Guinea eggs and hatched them all. The Guinea chicks assumed the hen was their mom and followed her around. She took very good care of them. They still follow her so we don't have them picking on the chicken because she is their mother.
We live on 5 acres and have 25 Guineas, males and females. They have formed several small bands and they roam anywhere they want. The girls tag right along with the boys. In one band there are several females that seem to be the leaders. We are fortunate that our neighbors appreciate the...
I left my Wellsummer sitting on Guinea eggs in the hen house with the flock of Easter Eggers and Guineas. She hatched 17 keets and is a fierce protector of her brood.
My Wellsummer hen just hatched out 17 guinea keets. They are all in the hen house and seem to be doing well.
The hen is very attentive and doesn't let them stray too far from her before she starts clucking and the keets all run back to her.
How soon do you think I could let them out into...
We built this 12 x 16 foot coop from scratch. It has 3 x 12 feed storage area and the remaining 13 x 12 area is separated by removable panels. We built sandwiched hardware cloth between 1 x 2s so there wouldn't be any sharp corners exposed. The perches are 1x3 to give them a comfy roost. We...
unfortunately she and all her eggs were eaten by a night time predator. I purchased 18 straight run guineas earlier in the spring.
I've got several females that I am sure of because of their vocalizations. Once they start laying -- in the coop I hope --I will be incubating their eggs.
We have Guinea keets and Easter Egger chicks that are rapidly out growing their current quarters. We have the keets in plastic storage containers while the chicks are living in the chicken tractor.
We are building a 12 x 16 coop that will have a 2 x 16 food storage area and the remaining 12...
if the chicks are all huddled together then they are too cold -- so lower the heat lamp.
if the chicks are panting and holding their wings out then they are too hot -- so raise the heat lamp
if they are spread out and and look comfy then they are just right (said the mama bear)...
Last year: My two adult male guineas and two laying hens (wellsummers) get along fine. They eat together and free range together and roost together. The Wellsummers were mature when we got the guinea keets. We kept them separate until the keets were about the size of the hens before we let...
We picked up a dozen 3 day old keets 2 days ago. They have settled nicely in their brooder that I keep in the hen house. I got a variety of colored keets. Jean told me what they were but I forgot. I'll take some pics tonight and post them tomorrow.
My chicks are almost completely feathered out. Over the weekend we moved them from the brooder to the chicken tractor. They have alot more room to play and chase bugs now. I'll try to get some pictures to night.
I can hardly wait for them to start laying.
I found the Guinea section and have been reading just about every post. The Ghen has sitting on her eggs in our neighbors hedgerow. She comes home every few days for a brief visit then she returns to the nest.
Our white Gmale returned home after about 3 weeks -- no idea what he was up to...
