So This Is A Knife ( これが包丁ですか, Kore ga Hōchō desu ka) is the fourth episode of Wakaba*Girl.
Synopsis[]
Moeko is excited to hang out with her friends and brings them to her place, but they struggle to bond and tries to figure out how to bring everyone together.
Summary[]
Moeko arrives around 10:00 am at a meeting location, followed by Nao. Until 10:45 they await Mao to join them, who claims some cows got in her way. Nao doesn't buy it but Mao reminds them that Wakaba has yet to arrive. Moeko attempts to call her but they aren't able to get a response.
Elsewhere, Wakaba is sitting on a bench holding her phone up in the air. She wonders why it's not working.
Walking down the path, the trio wonder if Wakaba showed up when Nao spots her. As she continues to observe her beeping phone, they approach her and to their shock, determine her phone is actually a wireless house phone. Wakaba doesn't seem to notice, happily confirming that she wasn't dreaming when they suggested hanging out, and with happy tears she embraces the trio.
The four sit down and calm her as Nao admits she isn't very surprised by these events, but they have trouble figuring out what they can do. Wakaba suggests they get ice cream again but Mao points out they just did that. Wakaba suggests they visit France, but Nao bluntly informs her that this isn't an option. Suddenly, Mao suggests going to Moeko's house, which Nao and Wakaba approve of but Moeko isn't sure, as it's so last-minute.
She finds herself unable to refuse and leads them to a large apartment complex she lives at. She fetches another pair of house slippers for Wakaba and the girls begin to observe her normal-looking home, voicing disappointment as they expected it to be "fairytale-like", like her. Moeko mentions her parents aren't home as she hands over the slippers. Wakaba feels bad for not thinking to bring some snacks but Moeko assures her it's fine. Mao begins to look over a book when Nao asks Wakaba for her opinion regarding Moeko's home, and she comments that it reminds her of a fairy, then quickly apologizes thinking she insulted her. Moeko assures her it's fine once again and heads off to grab drinks.
It's then Wakaba spots a discarded Sixteen Magazine on the floor and excitedly observes it. She's always wanted to buy one, but because she's been too embarrassed she never did. Sneakily, she stops to observe Nao and Mao before making an attempt to reach for it to take a look, but right before she can, Moeko walks in to catch her. Waka apologizes profusely but Moeko doesn't mind, allowing her to bring it back to the table, along with the cookies and drinks.
After some time, Moeko starts to notice her friends have been occupying themselves with manga or magazines, which causes her some disappointment; they could have just went to a cafe for this. She spots Wakaba reading a page on desserts and inspired, she suggests the group make cupcakes together. Nao and Mao aren't too interested since it's the weekend and they should just take things easily, and they don't really change their minds as Moeko tries to convince them it's fun. They ask Wakaba about her opinion and she voices excitement, so Nao and Mao agree to it so that she can at least experience baking with friends for once.
In Moeko's kitchen, she asks Wakaba to cut chocolate up, but after noticing her response as she prepares to hand her the knife, she delegates the job on someone else and has Wakaba crack eggs instead. Meanwhile, Nao and Mao have found a baking for dummies book and are looking at it for help. Before they can begin, Moeko instinctively ends up taking over everything on her own and within minutes, she has the cupcakes in the oven baking. She then offers to clean up and just tells the girls to have a seat again. Wakaba remarks on how they didn't actually do anything, but somehow Moeko seems fine. Mao and Nao deduce that she probably enjoys baking and making other people happy, and soon the cupcakes are finished. The girls sit down with some drinks and try the cupcakes, amazed by how delicious they are. They compliment Moeko's efforts and she agrees to give Wakaba the recipe after she asks for it. Wakaba remarks on how gyaru-ish this sort of thing is and is very happy by how today went.
As the day comes to an end, the girls prepare to leave until Wakaba recalls the small gifts she prepared for everybody in gratitude of allowing her to join them. She pulls out envelopes and remarks on how it isn't much, and the trio quickly refuse upon realizing she was going to pay them. They don't want to be this type of friend- words that confuse Wakaba.
The following day at school, Wakaba reveals she made a cake in return for the cupcakes Moeko made. The girls are surprised that she could learn to bake so quickly, but after she brings up altering the recipe to make it crispy, the girls are shocked to see that it's burnt.
