Anvil Theatre in New Westminster is taking shots at fatphobia with Fat Joke, a bold production by local playwright Cheyenne Rouleau, from January 31 to February 2, 2025.
Blending standup comedy with incisive social commentary, Fat Joke confronts weight-based discrimination in a way that’s equal parts hilarious and thought-provoking. Rouleau, known for her sharp wit and knack for tackling taboo subjects, takes audiences on a journey that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Directed by Chelsea Haberlin and produced by Neworld Theatre, the show—which premiered in April as part of The Cultch’s Femme Festival—promises to leave audiences with plenty to chew on. That means not just laughs, but also conversations that will linger long after the curtain falls.
