One World One Heart...the Final Year!!

Five years ago a wonderful journey was introduced by Lisa Swifka, who has an amazing blog called "A Whimsical Bohemian. Her magical journey each year would take the participants to places that otherwise most would never have known existed. I discovered this fantastic event last year and am so happy that I did. I made some amazing and awesome friends that I still...to this day...keep in touch with. Thank you Lisa!! Thank you..thank you...thank you!!!  This will however be the final year to fly with Lisa's OWOH so I hope that YOU will fly with us and discover just what all the rest of us have learned. There are so many others out there...all over the world...that we share common bonds with and all we have to do is reach out!!!

Lisa started this as a way for us to learn about one another....to show who is behind the blog and all the post that you read when you visit. So with that being said let me tell you a bit about this quirky artist sitting under the Southern Ooaks tree. My grandfather use to tell me that I was born with a crayon in one hand and a gift of sight to see what others failed to see or didn't want to see. Yes..of course...my grandfather was one of the quirky ones too and I'm so blessed that his artistic genes were passed down to me. I have always loved to design and bring the characters in my head out into the open. I refer to this as "letting my muse whisper to me" although sometimes she YELLS the ideas at me.....the whispering would be just fine by me though. I'm not hard of hearing...well...actually I am a wee bit. Hummmm...think it was because of my muse...well harumph!! I don't have one certain art that I like more than the other because that would be limiting myself. NOT that that's a bad thing....for some....but it's just not how my brain is wired...LOL  I have passions for drawing, writing, needle felting and jewelry designing. My biggest artistic passion however is my love of designing clay sculpts. My characters are those that walk on the whimsical side....the ones I see in my imagination. AND OMGOSH..yes..that is one very vivid imagination. I can be sitting and reading and look down at the rug and suddenly see a faerie or wizard looking up at me. ^_^

Of course the quirky artist is not my only role in life....although it is what makes me who I am with others. A free spirit...a soft spoken person...a wanderer...a beachcomer.....a treasurer seeker.  I am a wife, a sister, an aunt, a GREAT aunt (gulp), a Godmother, a best friend, and a late in life mom. Some said eight years ago, I either a.) was the bravest woman in the world or b.) went temporarily insane....I think maybe a tiny bit of both but I am so blessed that God granted me the ability to be able to have one more child at age 44. Yes...I said one more because I have three grown sons (29-25-23) out in the world doing their own thing. My youngest  was also born with a crayon in one hand and a muse that has been singing to him since he was a wee tot. Yet another quirky artist in our household....the poor, poor hubbikins!!!

Where I live is a coastal town in Alabama. It's not a big place but it is the perfect place to raise our son, call HOME and find so much inspiration for my art. Much of that inspiration is found on our beach walks. Let me show you.

Now that I have told you a bit about ME....let me tell ya'll about what you might receive for just stopping by for this visit. A big hug and thank you gift. Isn't that wonderful? It will look so pretty on a sweater..shirt..scarf..hat...jacket or even attached to a cloth purse. That's what I love to do with them. I even put them in my hair when I wear a ponytail. Pin her right to the scrunchy. Added 2-4-11: WOW..I can not believe that I have had so many comments in just a few days. I LOVE IT!! Ya'll please keep coming to visit. With all the new friends and old friends..well.... not calling YOU old but that I know you already..hehe..coming to visit I thought that I would add another "Thank you" for a second winner.  To keep it fair when the Chazman pulls from the bowl the first person pulled will get to choose which gift they want.

This is Shibee (pronouced Shy-be) He is one of my weebies...which if you don't know what that is let me tell you. It's one of my tiny desk sitters. He is just under 3" tall or would that be short....well let's just say tiny!!! He is fully hand sculpted (clay) and then washed with several different colors of acrylic paints. His eyes (pupils) are tiny glass beads. His heart is also sculpted out of clay and he is sitting on a pretty black feather.  I have put "OWOH 2011" on his heart so he can be a OWOH keepsake.

Studio Friday

It's a beautiful 60 degrees here today with a light, balmy breeze blowing....skies so blue you just want to sit and look up at the sun.....feel the warmth on your face. Our whole weekend is suppose to be this wonderful and I so hope that it is. There is a reenactment going on at Ft. Morgan this weekend and it would make a wonderful family outing and historical learning experience for the Chazman. With weather so amazing I bet you are asking why in the world am I sitting in my studio......and the answer to that is that my muse is singing so loudly that I can't go outside until I work on what she wants me to. Ohhhhh....the things we do for our muse. Ms. Peaches however is thoroughly enjoying this weather and being outside.

My muse has me inside..arrrgggg working on another Valentine's Faerie. She is going to be dancing in the middle of silk ribbon and fabric roses. Holding a stack of hearts in one hand...her Valentine's bucket filled with silk roses in the other and perhaps a tiny butterfly balancing on her toe.

I'm working on some special wings for her. Not quite sure if they are going to work but we will see. Never know until you try and then try some more and perhaps try a few more times...LOL!! The only thing I will say about them is, they have vintage MICA flakes in them.....hopefully. (fingers crossed)  If I can't get them to do like I want then she will have a lovely pair of my silk ribbon embroidered wings.


Fingers crossed that I will get enough done today and tonight to appease my muse so she will let me go on the family outing tomorrow. If she insists that I keep working all weekend then she is going to find herself up under an empty jelly jar with Ms. Peaches standing guard til Monday. ^_^

Custom Signature Stamp

Have you ever pondered over something regarding your craft and out of the clear blue sky the answer just comes to you...falls right into your lap? That happened to me recently....well...alright.....it might not have just come to me on my own but it sure came out of the clear blue. I had been fretting over how to put my artist signature on my ooaks. Not that my name "Regi" is a long drawn out one or one that would take up much space but I still couldn't decide on a good way to place it on the sculpt so that I knew it would stay. So far my pen signature has lasted but I wanted something a bit more permanent....something that I knew would stay on the sculpt for as long as the sculpt was around and that is what I'm hoping will be a very, VERY long time.

My friend Julee, over at Mommy's Memorandum discovered that the Charm Factory  was looking for clay artist to test one of their new products. Of course, I immediately sent them an email asking if I could be one of their testers and can you guess what the product was? Yes...you guessed....it was for a new Custom Signature Stamp they have. WOW...was I ever so excited when I was chosen to be one of the testers. I was able to choose what I wanted on the stamp, as in my name and even had three different fonts to chose from. They even offered to let me send in a photo of my logo or actual signature and see if they could set it up for me. I chose just my little artist signature name and one of their fonts. They even sent me a proof of how my name turned out and what it would look like stamped in the clay. Can we say "HAPPY..HAPPY"? 

After receiving Angie's email with my signature proof and then me saying it looked "AWESOME", I patiently (well...as patient as I could be) waited for it to arrive. I know that my poor mailman must think I am a complete looney tunes as he brought my little package to my door and I started giggling and dancing with excitement. He was kind and just handed it to me and then quickly (very quickly) walked back to his truck. Upon opening my envelope this is what I found.....

The most perfect little stamper in the world. Look....it has it's own key chain holder which makes it perfect to hang on a little hook close to my work desk. Even has the web link right on the handle so you can reference it for future ordering. Like one with my Southern Ooaks logo and one with the Chazman's name and well...I think you get the idea.

It is a great size to handle....right at 2". The handle is made from lead free pewter right there at the factory. The stamp itself is 1/2" wide x 3/8" tall. The depth is 1/32"....just perfect for the letters to extrude to make a wonderful imprint. The stamp itself is laser engraved on Delrin which is a stronger substance than your normal rubber stamps. Which means it will last longer....YEAH...and who doesn't like our supplies lasting longer. If you need the stamp area smaller then they might be able to accommodate you on that...they just can't make it any bigger.

This is my first ooaks that I stamped using my new signature stamper. It worked like a charm (ohhhh a funny...worked like a CHARM and it came from the CHARM Factory...ok ok so I'm still so excited about this signature stamper.) It is very easy to use. I would perhaps practice a few times with it just to make sure you know how much pressure to apply. It worked best for me by making sure I was holding it completely upright and pressing downwards in the clay. Clean up is a breeze too. Just some warm water. If you like to use colored clay then you can even use mild liquid soap if more than the warm water is needed. Since I love making my small sculpts I thought one of my TED E BEAR weebies would be perfect for the test run. (OMGOSH...another funny....test run...tesing out the stamper..OK OK I'm still excited...doesn't take much....does it?) Remember these are my tiny 2" characters. The signature is perfect. Don't you think? I know that it will last as long as the ooaks will...no more worries!!

Fabric Roses with Hat Pin

I know that I already posted once today but it was a wordless one so I figured I'm entitled to one with words now. Ri iight? Right...so here goes AND thank you for indulging me another post. ^_^

I finished working on one of the fabric rose pins that includes one of my fairy face hat pins. I'm not as happy as I would like to be with it but practice makes perfect. BOY...I should really be good at somethings with all the practice I have had......but ummmmm that's a whole nuther story. (nuther...one of those Southern twang words or it's just my heavy accent that makes me hear it that way...ya know...spell it the way ya hear it)
I do like her...just need to do some tweaking on the eyes I think. I LOVE how the feathers turned out as her hair. Feathers were very popular back in the Victorian days and that's what I want my pins to look like. Peacock feathers were the most popular. BUT until I can locate a peacock that will stand still long enough for me to borrow a few tail feathers so I can use them.....my black feathers will just have to do.

I made a small necklace out of silver beads, two black glass beads and three crystal beads. At the top of the hat pin are two silver spacer beads with a large silver/black bead...then the faery face. After the face bead then I placed another silver spacer bead and a small black bead. I threaded the pin through the roses and finished off the pin with a twisted end and then attached a silver spacer bead...a larger silver/black bead...another spacer bead and then a larger crystal bead (like the one on the necklace) to balance out the piece. The roses are some of my fabric wrapped or twisted ones. Along with some fabric leaves. All of it sewn to a felt backing with a tiny pin attached. You could wear it on a sweater....shirt....scarf.....hat...jacket or even attach it to a cloth purse.

I LOVE making these roses. I'm planning on making more as single pins.....barrettes.....bookmarks and well....there are just so many more possibilities being whispered to me. I am going to be placing some in my Etsy shoppe. If you have something special you would like made with these just email and let me know...I will be more than pleased to design it....just for you.

Wordless Wednesday

Little of this..little of that

Ms. Peaches is feeling much better today. It seems as though we have a junk food junkie cat on our hands. The Chazman informed me yesterday that he and Ms. Peaches sat and watched TV and eat Doritos together on Sunday and Ms. Peaches turned into Ms. Piggie. Guess that would give any being a tummy ache....LOL!!!

I did manage to get a few things done yesterday with all of her howling and wanting to go in and out all day long.

A lil HOOT owl with a big heart. I have to paint and detail him but I think he is cute just in his non painted state.

Another in the TED E BEAR weebie series. This time he has a big fat hive full of honey and he is even sharing with the bees.

These two lil lovelies are something new I'm working on. I have fallen in love with doing my fabric roses and flowers again. I hadn't made any in years until I made the pin for one of my nieces for Christmas and now the bug has bitten and bitten HARD. I want to have mine stand out a bit from everyone else's so my muse started whispering to me. What was something that all Victorian ladies had with them on their journey to visit another for tea....or their walks in the gardens? They had their beautiful hats that were attached with even more lovely hat pins. Hopefully, if my design works out then these two beauties will become hat pins for my fabric roses. I will be sure to keep you posted as they progress.

Cupid Baby #2

Aren't babies just the sweetest little things? Always so entertaining when they are discovering themselves. This little guy has discovered that his big toe will fit perfectly in his mouth. (such a shame that most males continue to put their foots in their mouths from time to time even in adulthood.....HEY...just sayin)

This wee one sits at just barely 2 1/2". He has a wire backbone and is completely sculpted out of Living Doll clay. His eyes and details were done using acrylic paints. His soft baby hair and tiny wings are made from real goose feathers.

Cupid is permanently attached to his little red blankie to feel safe and secure. He can sit inside his Vintage glass egg or sit out in front. He loves to do both. The vintage egg sits right at 4" when closed.

Of course, Cupid can be put to bed in his egg for safe keeping and the top closed at night. Remember: Best to do this when you have cats about.....well one like our Ms. Peaches who thinks all small things are HERS!!

 I wish that I had found more of these beautiful vintage eggs. These two though will surely make a lovely addition to any collector's groupings. They will both be in my Etsy shoppe and if someone would like to purchase both, please convo me and I will give you $15 dollars off and ship items together.

Baby Cupid #1

Every 75 years....a nursery of Cupid's are placed in the care of "The Believers". The Believers are those humans that have been blessed with the gift of faerie. With this gift, they can see all the mystical and magical creatures that live in our world right along beside us. Yes....there is more than one Cupid. Poor dear wouldn't last a year if there was only one. Are YOU one of the "Believers"? If so, are you up for the challenge of caring for one of the wee ones and keep him safe until he is ready to begin his journey to help us mere mortals to find true love.

This wee Cupid is a tiny 2" long. He has real goose feather hair and wings. He has a wire backbone covered in Living Doll sculpting clay. His detailing in acrylic paints. He is attached to his felt red blankie to make sure he always feels safe and warm.

Cupid fits nice and snug in his Valentine's egg. The egg is a vintage porcelain glass pill box painted with a motif of roses and a grown Cupid. It does seem to be painted on and then heat set...it is not a decal. The two parts of the egg have a rim of gold and a tiny gold clasp to keep it shut. Wee Cupid can be closed up in the egg for safe keeping. A nice thing if you have a cat or two roaming about.

 This piece would make a perfect Valentine's keepsake or perhaps a beautiful baby shower gift for the mother that is expecting around the 14th of February.

This is the first Cupid sculpt in a series of two that I am doing. I have another vintage glass egg that I am going to be doing as another Cupid nursery holder. It has a slightly different Cupid painting on it. The wee one in it will be sitting up....perhaps a tiny bit more older than this wee one. Both will be available in my Etsy shoppe. WIP it....WIP it good!!

Wondering about the title? You are, aren't you? I just couldn't resist naming this post "WIP it" for two reasons...the first OBVIOUSLY is because it's of....yes....you guessed it...a Work In Progress. The second reason is because I have been listening to old rock and pop while working in the studio and that crazy song "Whip it" was playing so I thought it would be cute to make my post title what I did. YOU do remember or know the song...ri iight? It's that crazy song by the group Devo...came out in the 80's. Soooo everyone reading this should remember it...HA!!!! Now that I have heard it (pulling hair) I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.

Oh well...I guess it could be worse. I could have that "Barney" song stuck in my....ok let's not think about that or I will get it stuck in there and sing it the rest of the day. Let me show you what I have been working on (and stop that..I hear you humming "Barney")

A few years ago I found two beautiful Valentine's china eggs at an estate sale. The woman said that they had belong to her Great Grandmother and she was a bit older than me....yes I'm saying she was old herself ^_^
I bought both of them with the vision of doing "something" with them but until recently my muse had not informed me as to what. The eggs open up like the vintage china pill boxes so I thought a baby cupid would look sweet laying inside.

He is a tiny lil fella....only 2" long. He just fits perfect inside the egg. I plan on putting little, tiny white feather wings on him. Well...that's what I think Cupid's wings are!! He is ready to be baked and then I will detail him some more and put some hair on his wee lil head. I hope you will come back to see him when he is complete. I'm hoping someone will fall in love with him and adopt him once he is in my Etsy shoppe. Almost like two gifts in one....a ooaks Cupid baby and a vintage glass egg.

The Three Bears

I really shouldn't have said "The Three Bears" because this particular lil weebie is actually the character of one lil bear....Ted E Bear. He is gearing up for Valentine's and wants to make sure he is completely and totally prepared.

The first weebie is of Ted E. wanting to share his bounty of pure, sweet honey he just happen to find laying on the ground. Seems someone (did I mention that Pooh Bear is a neighbor) knocked down this wonderful beehive filled to the brim with honey. They must have forgotten to take the hive with them....you do tend to forget with a swarm of angry bees hot on your furry tail. Their loss but Ted E. Bear's gain. Now he wants to share it with YOU. He wants to know if you will "Bee his Honey". What a sweet lil bear!!! He sits at a tiny 3 1/2 ". He is sculpted out of white Sculpey clay and then hand painted and rubbed using acrylic paints. His eyes are tiny glass beads. He is sitting on top of a hand sculpted heart made out of clay..hand rubbed and then vintage MICA flakes placed on top. His sign is hand painted on card stock with a felt backing. His little bee holder is made from copper wire. The bottom of the base is covered in felt...he doesn't want to scratch whatever he is sitting on.

Beautiful wild roses can be found almost everywhere in Ted E. Bear's forest. He has picked two lovely ones and has even found a tiny little heart vase to place them in. This little Ted E. stands at a tiny 3" tall. He is hand sculpted using white Sculpey clay...hand painted and rubbed using acrylic paints. His eyes are tiny glass beads. His flowers and vase are sculpted out of clay and hand rubbed with acrylic paints as well. His base is covered in hearts that have been hand painted and rubbed and then vintage MICA flakes placed on. The bottom is covered in felt.

Of course, Ted E. can't forget candies for his sweetheart and what better candy than tiny candy hearts with love sayings on them. This Ted E. is a tiny 2" tall and is sitting on top of a heart sculpted out of Sculpey clay with layers of clay candy hearts attached. Around the base heart I have covered it using my vintage MICA flakes. The bottom covered in felt. This piece is sculpted out of clay...hand painted and rubbed using acrylic paints. His eyes are tiny glass beads. He is holding a sweetheart made from clay that is telling you what he wants to give you. A great big Bear HUG!!

I enjoy making my weebies so much. They make cute little collectibles for holidays, birthdays, baby showers and for just a "I love you" gift. Keep them in mind the next time you need a small gift for that special occasion. If you have something in particular that you would like for me to do just let me know. Weebies are coming!!

I love making my one of a kind sculpts but I also love making my weebies. For those new to sitting under the old oak tree, let me tell you what a weebie is. A weebie is a tiny sculpt...one that is sculpted by hand so that alone makes it unique but it's also one that I will repeat. It's like a little ornament/ornie but one that will sit on your desk or mantle or shelf or where ever the heck ya want to sit them. ^_^  Here is a peek at a few I'm working on that will be going to sit under that big old oak tree in my Etsy shoppe.

Valentine's Faery

With eyes as green as emeralds

and hair as dark as night

A tiny faerie gives a wish

a wish of faerie sight

She sits upon a little box

a special gift you see

The reason it's so special

It's just for you from me

Whenever you are lonely

Or even feeling blue

You only have to hold this gift

And know I think of you

You never can unwrap it

Please leave the bows all tied

Just hold the box close to your heart

It's filled with love inside

Ruby is a true protector of all things having to do with love and the heart. She is one of my gently poseable ooaks. Head/torso, hands and feet sculpted out of Living Doll clay. Hand painted using acrylic paints. Her wings were made with wire and then embroidered using silk thread. Crystals sewn on to give then a simple elegance. She has a strong wire armature underneath a body wrapped in wool yarn. Silk ribbon was used to make her sleeves and skirt. Her hair is lambswool. (sheared only) She is wearing a necklace made with vintage glass beads and a tiny golden heart. Her roses are some of my hand twisted silk ribbon roses. Her Ted E Bear is a tiny stuffed bear with a beautiful red ribbon attached. The same ribbon I use for my roses. Ruby sits at 6" and that includes her wing tips. She is attached to the box and like the poem states...the box can never be opened. You wouldn't want to lose the gift of faerie sight and release the love inside it....now would you?

Ruby is was going to be placed in my Etsy shoppe but she has found her a new home already. I know she will be will taken care of....thank you Janene!!

WIP it Tuesday

It's a rather blustery, chilly day here on the coast. It's 10am and we are still at 35 with the wind chill. So much for the flip flops today. ^_^  It is however the most perfect day to spend inside working in my studio....with sock feet and my warmest sweater on...and that's exactly what I'm doing. One of the Valentine's Day faeries I'm working on is baking as we speak. Her wings are embroidered and the crystals attached. Her bouquet of silk roses are ready for her to hold. Her little box patiently waits for her to sit upon it. (she will be dressed at that point...I promise)

I think while she is baking I'm going to fix me a pot of hot tea and reflect. Today is a very sad day in my world...one that has healed some with time but still my heart aches. The one thing that keeps it from completely breaking is knowing that I will see my Daddy again.....when my time on this earthly plain comes to an end.
