Training
SIL offers training in sign language linguistics, translation principles and translation methodology for members of Deaf communities, SIL Global Sign Languages Team (GSLT) staff and partner organizations involved in materials development in local sign languages. The goal is to develop a global team of Deaf consultants, specialists and trainers.
Training opportunities include:
- For new SIL Global Sign Languages Team (GSLT) staff, orientation and training is provided through a program in Oradea, Romania
- Specialized training for sign language work is now provided through Dallas International University (DIU). This is the primary training available to SIL and Wycliffe members. Training was formerly provided by SIL-UND. The final SIL-UND summer program was in 2019.
- Sign language translation principles, methodology and production workshops
- Sign language translation consultant and specialist training
- Multilingual Deaf education (MLDE) training that builds capacity in Deaf schools and Deaf organizations for teaching Deaf students in their own sign language and bridging to literacy skills in the surrounding print majority language
