We use an integrated, landscape-level approach to conservation that is built on the support and participation of local communities.
Our conservation programs extend to over one million acres of forest and 50% of Nepal’s red panda range!
We work with community partners in 13 districts (of 23 red panda range districts) in Nepal with over 75 Community Forest User Groups in adopting sustainable forest management practices.
Our work started in 2007 in eastern Nepal where we are establishing the PIT Red Panda Protected Forest.
Since then we have extended our community-based red panda conservation programs from 3 districts in eastern Nepal —Panchthar, Ilam and Taplejung, to 7 districts in Western Nepal — Dolpa, Jajarkot, Jumla, Kalikot, Rolpa, Rukum East and Rukum West. We are also working in Bhutan.
In 2022, we expanded to 3 new districts in eastern Nepal’s Solukhumbu, Bhojpur and Khotang districts.
