a pinterest fave

i see this one frequently on pinterest and i agree - it deserves to be pinned. i do not recall if there was some other image that inspired it. it doesn't look like me. but, we'll never know. once in a while i actually come up with a good idea. i rather doubt this was completely original. the eyes and teeth are so simple, but i just don't think i would have come up with them on my own.

eva & rosie

a few days ago when i posted the envelope to jan with the cat hanging on the clothesline, my brother left a comment that his two cats had issues with the cat hanging on the clothesline. so i told him to tell his cats to watch their mail box. i hope they are relieved to see that the clothespins have been removed and these cats are clearly enjoying themselves and exploring their creative sides.

it made me think of the guy on shark tank who got a deal with the sharks for his website called *i want to draw a cat for you.* i remember thinking - what a great idea. just let people pay you to do really bad drawings. why didn't i think of that. i suppose i could start a website called *i want draw a cat hanging on a clothesline for you*

i just checked and his website says he has drawn 19,214 cats.
he has a $10 cat  x 19,214 = $192,140
a $30 cat x 19,214 = $576,420

so he's made between those two figures.
maybe i should just offer to draw anything for you, on an envelope and mail it.....

your thoughts?

p.s. i like my cats better. his have human faces - which i find a little disconcerting.

natalie's mail truck photo

fun day at the p.o. yesterday. i was standing in a long line and someone noticed the two envelopes that are on display. natalie pointed to me and said, "the artist is here today." everyone turned and looked. i did my very best princess wave. then i eyed the empty display case at the end of the lobby and wondered, "do you suppose they would let me put up a display of envelopes?" now i am pondering *flooding* them with mail. i suppose if all y'all want to join in the fun, you could send mail to

natalie @ the front desk
1165 2nd street
des moines, ia 50318

and when i say, yesterday - it was actually july 23rd. i am cranking out my posts ahead of time because the humidity is unbearable and i bought a one way ticket to toronto. any scribes in toronto want to meet me at the park on victoria memorial park on wellington and portland? i'll have sidewalk chalk.

pinterest link

once again, i found something on pinterest that is beyond stealworthy. if you had to mail a large envelope, you could draw a small one and then fill up the space with additional thoughts.

this seems to be something about privacy - maybe something that should concern me. but i am old. i'll be dust before any of these issues get sorted out.

here is the link to the original. hope it's ok to repost it. if anyone wants me to remove it, i will be happy to do so.

google map for smash

i saw this idea on pinterest. print out a map with directions from one house to the other.

i am not happy with the way i wrote the zip code. i was trying to make it eye catching for the p.o.

i know it will arrive, because i put her address as the return address.

it's a fun idea and it would also be fun to redraw the map by hand.

alert reader miss cathy advises us that it now takes $1.20 to mail to Canada, but you may mail up to 2-ounces for $1.20. the 2-ounce rate is only for Canada.i mentioned the cost of postage to Canada in yesterday's blog post.

ellen - reindeer

there might be one similar to this in the archives. i loved these stamps and did a ton of envelopes the year they came out. the non-traditional green and addition of yellow and purple was really fun. and i like any stamp that has snowflakes shaped like asterisks.

i really like the way the ll in ellen pops up rather high. i also like the way the lestters are touching, but not always touching at the bottom.

elllen - gift tags

i like this idea and would use it again. i would make the gifts larger. i would also make the last name and the address lines come out exactly the same width as the row of gifts.
