“ | There is nothing wrong with being selfish. It is natural to put the needs of yourself and your loved ones first... but I cannot stand those who think it makes them virtuous. | ” |
– Manasvin on his ideals[1]
|
Manasvin is a nastika and he was the second king of the Ananta clan. His current status is unknown aside from the fact that he is no longer king.
Appearance[]
In his human form, Manasvin appears as a tall slender man with a light skin tone. He has long, thick and wavy gray hair and a blue right eye. He has green-gray scales on his cheeks that go toward his ears. He has a light gray-purplish mask that he can use to entirely cover his face, but sometimes lifts and wears on top of his head. The mask features a black outline of a closed left eye, a black outline of an open right eye, and three darker purple horn-like objects that curve downwards, covering the top of the head.
He wears purple trousers and a long, pointy tunic which is white on the left side and front, and light-purplish on the right side and back. He wears a long-sleeved jacket that has a white collar and is white on the right side, with a light-purplish outline on the sleeve, and light-purplish on the left side, with a white outline on the sleeve. He also wears white gloves.
Currygom states that Manasvin keeps his body and face covered up because of the sura traits he retains in human form, which he does not like.[2]
Personality[]
Not much is known about Manasvin, but he seems to be calm and collected. He resents the gods and what he feels is their hypocrisy. He is deeply in love with Sagara and appreciates her honesty. He is strongly devoted to his clan as well as to Ananta.[3] According to Gandharva, things were better when Ananta was king.
Notes[]
- Sagara was glued to his side when he was king.
- He was Sagara's most recent lover and by the time of Ananta's death they had been together for about a century.[4]
- It has been implied that the method due to which the role of king was passed on to Sagara was not standard. Had Manasvin simply died, the next strongest in line would have taken the throne.[5][6]
- Manasvin means "determined/clever/wise" in Sanskrit.
- Though this has been speculated for a long time, the fact that Pingara is the child of Manasvin was only confirmed in Episode 3-150 where Pingara said that his father is the person who told Sagara never to trust the gods. Manasvin says this in Episode 1-20.
- Although Manasvin and Vasuki are rivals they are not jealous of each other or on bad terms.[7]
Plot[]
History[]
Manasvin was the 3rd strongest nastika in the Ananta clan. Following Ananta's death in D500, he became king and held the post until recently, when he was succeeded by Sagara under unknown circumstances in between the years N5 and N15. He has been dating Sagara since approximately D400 and they have a child together, Pingara.
Season 1[]
Chapter 3: The Sorrow of Loss[]
(9) Gandharva recalls Manasvin warning him never to trust the gods as their lies are worse than those of humans.
Chapter 6: The Past I Yearn For/Longing for Yesterday[]
(3) After the N0 Cataclysm, Manasvin, accompanied by Sagara, visits Gandharva and offers an alternative method how to save the Gandharva clan, since he suspects that Visnu's promise that a god will come to create an ocean will never get realized. Manasvin had already visited his ally, Asura, but he was rejected with the words that despite liking the plan, it was not Asura's style.
Gandharva angrily refuses the proposal, calling Manasvin crazy, and implying that agreeing to such a thing would mean great disrespect to the comatose Garuda, who is his friend. Manasvin is about to argue but Sagara stops him and makes the decision to leave and go ask Airavata instead. On his way out, Manasvin alerts Gandharva that the poison of the sura realm is taking a heavy toll on Shakuntala and she has been hiding this fact from her father by healing herself. As an expert on poisons, Manasvin can tell.
(4) After having his attack blocked, Gandharva bitterly comments how Sagara glued herself first to Ananta, then Manasvin, and when she finally became king herself, has lackeys to fight for her.
Chapter 8: The Wavering King[]
(1) After Ananta's death, Vasuki is the most powerful nastika left in the clan and it is likely that he will become king. Manasvin tells his lover, Sagara, to return to her former lover, Vasuki, so that she can sit alongside the king as she had always desired. Since she and Manasvin had been dating for a mere one hundred years, he is able to let Sagara go.
Vasuki made the choice to change to female form. In this state, he is weaker than Manasvin, therefore Manasvin becomes the next king, and Sagara stays with him.
(5) Much to the dissatisfaction of other nastikas, Sagara succeeds Manasvin as the king upon his death. Manasvin's situation remains unexplained, but several nastikas doubt that Manasvin could have simply died since in such a case the next strongest in line should have taken the throne, not Sagara.
Season 2[]
Chapter 20: Grudge[]
(5) In D500 the members of the Ananta clan fought to save Ananta. A messenger arrives to inform Manasvin and Sagara that no more reinforcements will be coming since all the clans are preoccupied. The Asura clan has its hands full fighting the Yaksha and Garuda clans, and the Kinnara clan is dealing with internal trouble over the Power of the Name. Taksaka has come as a representative of the Vritra clan, but he does not seem to be doing anything. Rescuing Ananta would be costly if not impossible under these circumstances.
When Sagara asks why the Gandharva clan refused assistance, the messenger speaks of their visit to the Gandharva clan stronghold on Carte. Gandharva seemed inclined to come and join the fight until his wife, Menaka, forbid him from doing so in fear that this could turn the attention of the gods towards them. Gandharva agreed with Menaka and turned down the messenger, claiming that he is a king who loves peace and the clan would fight only to protect Menaka.
Hearing this angers Sagara, surely even Gandharva must realize the implications of the loss of Ananta? She rages that Menaka ruined Gandharva, but Manasvin interrupts her, turning her attention to more practical matters.
When Sagara asks how Manasvin can stay so calm, he states that he is actually very angry. He dislikes hypocrites who pride themselves on goodness but only care about their immediate surroundings. Though being selfish is natural, he cannot stand those who feel like this makes them virtuous.
He states that Sagara's honesty makes her lovely in his eyes. Then he declares that it is time to go protect Ananta or at the very least to shred apart the beings responsible for his death. A huge battle is being waged in the distance.
“ | I hate those who would resort to doing anything just to kill one nastika, then boast about the 'Triumph of Justice'. I hate those who sit in safety and delude themselves into thinking the world is peaceful. Those that close their eyes to the bloodshed which happens somewhere else. Whereas, Sagara... your honesty makes you lovely in my eyes. | ” |

Spin-off Episode 18 - In My Delusion (Vol 1)[]
We learn that Ananta was the original god of this universe, known at the time as the Great Snake. He had a female companion named Manasa. She had the ability to manipulate time, which she used to do good for those who needed help in the universe. During this time beings calling themselves the Primeval Gods appeared and clashed with Ananta and Manasa. Over time, the use of the time ability tore away at her soul and she became corrupted. The Primaeval Gods fought against her and slew her. Ananta in his grief collected the shards of her broken soul and asked the god Resurrection that she be brought back to life. He replied that he could use parts of her shattered soul to place into another living being, but she may not reassemble the Manasa he once knew. Resurrection attempted to bring her back but ran into trouble making the broken pieces work. He ended up taking a piece of her broken name, combining it with another name, and created a new male being known as Manasvin. The remaining parts of her soul was placed in a being with a totally different name, Sagara. Manasvin evoked a similar vibe in personality to Manasa and inherited the power of her broken name. Sagara received the looks that Manasa had but her power and personality was far different than the original. Distraught with the outcome, Ananta used his own time ability to try and change what happened. However, no matter how far back he went, even until the beginning of time, Manasa no longer existed and was replaced by a combination of Manasvin and Sagara instead.
