Seismic Area Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 36.2 [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter I -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Part 36 -- Licenses and Radiation Safety Requirements for Irradiators; Subpart A -- General Provisions] the term seismic area means “any area where the probability of a horizontal acceleration in rock of more than 0.3 times the acceleration of gravity in 250 years is greater than 10 percent, as designated by the U.S. Geological Survey.”
