Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba's successful performance in Playa del Carmen, one of the most attractive tourist destinations in southeastern Mexico, confirms the company's vigor and authenticity.
A press release from the group alludes to the repercussion in local media of the show ¡Cuba Vibra! (Cuba Vibrates!), which was highly acclaimed at Teatro de la Ciudad last Friday.
“As if it were a flamenco tablao somewhere in Andalusia, Spain, the dancers made this dance-musical fusion a reality, which the public acknowledged with their applause and standing ovations,” the newspaper La Jornada Maya noted.
¡Cuba vibra! The show covers the Caribbean island’s music and various dances, the company said, noting that Mexican media was struck by elements such as the use of fans and the numerous costume changes.
“In red, with a fan, with multiple costume changes, the dancers gave themselves with professionalism, but also with their hearts,” Channel 10 stated on its official website.
According to the newspaper and the channel, the repertoire of ¡Cuba Vibra! consists, among others, of a mambo that recalls the popular creations of Damaso Pérez Prado and an American swing, all used by the group with its characteristic fusion style.
“The Cuban cadence was mixed with the flamenco rhythm. The coordinated entrances and exits created a dynamism that infected the audience,” they noted.
Its social impact was also notable, as the international event “raised more than 1,700 toys that will be delivered to girls and boys in January 2025,” La Jornada Maya informed.
After the success, and in response to popular demand, Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba was invited to take part in a public performance at Plaza 28 de Julio last Saturday.
