Same here - uBlock Origin, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, 4K Video Downloader and more.

Never see ads but I support my favourite channels (usually) via their Patreon stuff.

As for alternatives to YT, I'm no expert but historically I would suspect that as an alternative steps up to the plate, eventually somebody will say "We can make money here" and the cycle begins again, unless there is a decent open source/forked type of equivalent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I run a business who's demographic is young mum's with toddlers/pre schoolers or mature (grandparents).

I rely on Facebook because that's where they are.

I can control what the Zuk gets to know about me personally but there are plenty of small, home based businesses in the same boat.

I don't like FB nor do I like doing business on my (rooted) phone but that's where my demographics live - they don't 'do the interwebtubes' because they use facebook instead - that's how they view 'tech'.

Just because we commantards here are all high and mighty and 'hates the faecesbook' or whatever other childish chant, doesn't mean I need to starve myself and family.

Sure, I have a website and all but I ignore my market on facebook at my peril.

Your mileage may vary.

Must admit, as a budding writer I used to make sure I used a VPN and appropriate Tor browser etc etc when searching for 'how to poison somebody', 'how to hide a body', 'temperature bodies burn at' or all manner of stuff as 'book research'.

Now I simply do it blatantly and openly but making sure I have lots of stuff in my writing software research folders (Scrivener, if you're interested) that makes it obvious that I'm writing and not actually planning to be naughty.

But then, I guess, that's what I would want you to think, isn't it?

Can't win, really ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: I wonder...

Could be part of the 'not my job/above my paygrade' syndrome or possibly simply strict rules that the device can only be 'sorted' by the contracted techie.

I've had to sort out various equipment over time that was 'fixed' by the old turn 'er off and back on again but, depending on who and what determines the rules, some places come down hard on folks who do it if not 'qualified' (for various definitions of the word).

Arrogant twat at a company I service always tries to convince the bosses that I'm too old to do tech and they need somebody younger who 'knows all about the cloud and stuff'. Turns out his best mate is 'into IT' or such.

Maybe slightly OT but I'm an amateur fantasy writer and my publisher/proofer dictates how I send my copy to be proofread - something like docx, double-spaced, 1" left margin (I think), so many words per page and other such requirements.
