Ladder 49 is a 2004 disaster thriller film directed by Jay Russell and starring Joaquin Phoenix, John Travolta, Morris Chestnut, Robert Patrick, Balthazar Getty, Jay Hernandez, and Jacinda Barrett.
Synopsis[]
Ladder 49 Follows the lives of a group of firefighters in the Baltimore City Fire Department with one in particular reminiscing on his past as he is trapped in a burning building while his fellow firefighters attempt to rescue him. As the movie progresses, we learn more about the close relationships the Firefighters share with each other and their families. We also get a glimpse into the dangers of Firefighting and we watch as the Firefighters deal with the tragic deaths of two colleagues and lean on each other and we also see some comical moments.

Trivia[]
- Joaquin Phoenix trained with actual firefighters where he was given the nickname "Hollywood". After completion, they started calling him by his real name. Phoenix is now an honorary member.
- The film is set in Baltimore, but was originally going to be set in New York City. This was changed following 9/11.
