Dinosaur Jubilee was an opening day walkthrough attraction at DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney's Animal Kingdom that was replaced by Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama.
Summary[]
Taking place in a tent structure across from the Chester and Hester's Dinosaur Treasures shop, Dinosaur Jubilee was an exhibit of fossils and skeleton casts representing some of the Dino Institute's findings. Most of these casts were supplied by either the Black Hills Institute or Triebold Paleontology. Comical guided tours of the displays were offered by the Dino Institute's student interns.
Prehistoric creatures featured in the exhibit included:
- Stan the Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the most complete Tyrannosaurs found before the discovery of Sue
- 2 Triceratops
- 1 Edmontosaurus
- 1 Pachycephalosaurus
- 2 Tylosaurus along with a Pteranodon in its jaws
- Archelon
- Animatronics of a Mammoth and Smilodon
Designed as a temporary placeholder, the Dinosaur Jubilee would close in 2000 and was replaced by Dino-Rama. Many of the casts would be donated to various museums while the Archelon was relocated to Dinosaur's gift shop.[1]
Trivia[]
- Raymond, a fully articulated Triceratops horridus skeleton from the Black Hills Institute that was on display in the attraction, had a nameplate that misspelled the name of the paleontologist who discovered it. The nameplate reads "Dr. W. R. Gartska", when it should read "Garstka".
- The Tylosaurus with a Pteranodon in its jaws could be a reference to a scene from The Rite of Spring segment of Fantasia.
- Though the attraction was removed very early in Animal Kingdom's lifespan, Dinosaur Jubilee and the Fossil Preparation Lab still appear on a hand-drawn map of Dinoland featured on one of the bulletin boards found throughout DinoLand U.S.A.
- Sculptures of the heads of Triceratops and a theropod from a display on dinosaur vision were saved for use in activities for the Kid's Discovery Club and its successor, Wilderness Explorers.
- The attraction was prominently featured in Disney Sing Along Songs: Flik's Musical Adventure at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
