Motivation

[edit]

Nextstrain (https://nextstrain.org/) is a system for promoting the rapid sharing of virus data, including for influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses. It assigns identifiers for individual virus clades. It is complementary to systems such as PANGOLIN and GISAID. -- The Anome (talk) 10:02, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

WikiProject Taxonomy has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. This would be very useful right now, as tracking SARS-Cov-2 variants is a live subject right now; this can also be extended to tracking other infectious virus clades, per the Nextstrain mission statement. -- The Anome (talk) 10:02, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notified participants of WikiProject Medicine Since no-one in the Taxonomy group has yet commented here, I thought I'd bring this to the attention of the Medicine WikiProject. Any comments very welcome. -- The Anome (talk) 00:22, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's better use an external identifier with this formatter URL: https://nextstrain.org/groups/neherlab/ncov/21I.Delta Germartin1 (talk) 23:08, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose From the examples it seems the property currently only includes the last part of groups/neherlab/ncov/21I.Delta, so it seems specific to something called "neherlab" and COVID-19, not a general property for viruses. --Haansn08 (talk) 02:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment as property creator: @The Anome, Haansn08, TiagoLubiana: no activity for almost a year on this page. What should we do? if there is still no activity nor consensus, this property will ultimately be declined. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 08:52, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need an official policy on property proposal deprecation; e.g. no activity after 6 months it goes to backlog and can be reproposed if still needed (and discussion started from scratch with a link to the archived old discussion). The same could happen if, e.g. 1 year has passed and no consesus was reached. For this one, I think it should be archived and reproposed if needed. TiagoLubiana (talk) 14:03, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
