Motivation
[edit]This is to replace Geographical Names Board of NSW ID (P3517), which unfortunately no longer works as a formatter (but can still be mapped one-to-one to the GNB file number). They have moved their web IDs to the new format proposed above. Note that one of the examples given has been dual-named, to recognise original Aboriginal name, so it won't necessarily always obey the single value constraint. 99of9 (talk) 11:29, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

- Support until GNBNSW decides to obfuscate all their identifiers again! Do you have a list of the new identifiers or a way of converting them (the new IDs don't seem to be in the file when you download all GNR records, and I tried various ways of hashing the old IDs to see if that was how it was derived but no luck)? --Canley (talk) 08:31, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Ha, yes. I also haven't worked out the hash function yet, and nor do I know of a list. So for now it will be a slow rollout! --99of9 (talk) 08:36, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @99of9: I would guess based on the format that it is a random/unique database row key generated via Microsoft Transact-SQL's NEWID function and thus not a case of obfuscation of an underlying identifier format. It is likely to change again in the future if they pick a different database server implementation for hosting the data.
