GHS hazard pictogram

[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science

Descriptionqualifier for P4952 for GHS hazard pictograms
RepresentsGHS hazard pictogram (Q19360817)
Data typeItem
Domainchemical substance (Q79529) (also in GHS categories items under GHS classification (Q50490688) after appropriate items for classes and categories are created)
Allowed values9 items (to be created), each about one of the GHS pictograms (with pictogram graphic placed in a property)
Examplearsenic trioxide (Q7739) → GHS09, GHS08, GHS05, GHS06 (four items, each for different pictogram)
Format and edit filter validationone-of constraint (Q21510859)
Sourceofficial GHS data (like CLI for UE), SDSs of chemical companies

GHS hazard phrase

[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science

Descriptionqualifier for P4952 for GHS H-phrases (also EUH-phrases, AUH-phrases)
RepresentsGHS hazard statement (Q28360)
Data typeItem
Domainchemical substance (Q79529) (also in GHS categories items under GHS classification (Q50490688) after appropriate items for classes and categories are created)
Allowed valuesover a hundred items (to be created), each about one of the GHS H-phrase
Examplearsenic trioxide (Q7739) → H300, H314, H350, H410 (four items, each for different H-phrase)
Format and edit filter validationone-of constraint (Q21510859)
Sourceofficial GHS data (like CLI for UE), SDSs of chemical companies
See alsosafety classification and labelling (P4952), Wikidata:Property proposal/safety classification and labelling, P728 (P728)

GHS precautionary phrase

[edit]

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science

Descriptionqualifier for P4952 for GHS P-phrases
RepresentsGHS precautionary statement (Q2467204)
Data typeItem
Domainchemical substance (Q79529) (also in GHS categories items under GHS classification (Q50490688) after appropriate items for classes and categories are created)
Allowed valuesover a hundred items (to be created), each about one of the GHS P-phrase
Examplearsenic trioxide (Q7739) → P201, P280, P301+310, P330, P303+P361+P353, P304+P340, P310, P305+P351+P338, P308+313 (nine items, each for different P-phrase; for UE GHS this is usually up to six P-phrases, in US GHS there is no limit, so it can be more, but usually it does not exceed about twenty)
Format and edit filter validationone-of constraint (Q21510859)

Motivation

This is quite clear proposition after discussion about safety classification and labelling (P4952). All proposed properties would be used as qualifiers in safety classification and labelling (P4952).

  • The GHS pictogram property was discussed before, but was about different datatype. As GHS pictograms are distinguished in other databases by their number, I think that is the right way to do it in WD. Each GHS pictogram will have its own item (the label should contain at least the number, like 'GHS01', but it can be also number+name, like 'GHS01: exploding bomb'), with pictogram (icon) as a value of icon (P2910)).
  • The GHS hazard phrase and GHS precautionary phrase are an up-date of P728 (P728) and P940 (P940) respectively. There is a need for a data-type change from string to item. Creating items for every H-, P-, EUH-, AUH-phrases will allow us to have descriptions for them (in a property not as a WD item description) in every official language (i.e. in every language in which GHS was incorporated into the law system in specific country). E.g. H260 have W kontakcie z wodą uwalniają łatwopalne gazy, które mogą ulegać samozapaleniu translation in Polish and In contact with water releases flammable gases which may ignite spontaneously translation in English. However, right now I don't see a way to enable adding of specified descriptions in some H-phrases. E.g. H341 (Suspected of causing genetic defects) may be specified with route of exposure for certain substance – and for this I don't have any idea how it could be done in WD, so I think we will have to add generic H-phrases in all substances, even if for some of them H-phrase was stated with such information (like route of exposure or other).
