Webby Talks: “it’s giving brainrot”

Introducing the 2024 – 2025 Season

An annual thought leadership series from The Webby Awards, Webby Talks explores the Internet’s most important trends that are changing the future of digital.

Each year, The Webby Awards executive team hosts Webby Talks, their annual thought leadership event to explore the biggest digital trends impacting our world and work. Last year’s talk traveled across to the world to companies like Netflix, Google, Apple, BBC Creative, National Geographic, Mischief @ No Fixed Address, NBC Universal, Pinterest, Amazon Music, Partizan, Audible and beyond. Webby Talks is an exclusive benefit for companies that participate in the Webby Awards and our community!

About The Trend

This year’s Webby Talks trend is ‘it’s giving brain rot: How chronically online culture is taking us from the niche to the nonsensical, and why that (can be) a good thing.

A dive into how our obsession with being extremely online, microtrends and new digital tools have accelerated niche and chaotic Internet culture into the zeitgeist, leaving consumers losing their filter between the online and offline. ‘it’s giving brain rot’ explores how brands and creatives are embracing the rot to build more creative and sustainable exchanges for audiences.

Each year, the series includes entertaining and informative talks, community events, and our annual trend report based on three months of research by the Webby Awards team including a review of the rising trends from 13,000 submissions to the 28th Annual Webby Awards.  This year, in partnership with Meltwater, a media monitoring and social listening platform, Webby Talks will tap into their complete social listening dataset to understand how the larger phenomenon of terminally online culture is being talked about online.

This year’s Webby Talks series will be both virtual and in person, taking place from September 2023 to February 2024, and we invite all Webby Awards participants to book a Webby Talk to inspire and educate their team today.
