Discussions about <model> with some Wider Groups

Agenda

Chairs:
Ada Rose Cannon, Marcos Caceres, Brandel Zachernuk

Description:
Discussions about <model> with some Wider Groups

Goal(s):
Establish whether Model elements are Media Elements

Agenda:
The HTML Model Element is an in progress proposal for a new HTML element which can display 3D models on a Web Site, with capabilities for displaying in Stereo on compatible display hardware such as VR and AR devices.

Is the <model> element a Media Element?

The model element has many capabilities which overlap with Media elements, what does it mean to be a media element and is it appropriate here?

For example a model could have a duration for it's animation but it might not be animated at all. It could potentially have multiple independent tracks.

Should model's allowed to be transparent can they always be opaque are there any always opaque elements?

Can lead to uncomfortable visual conflicts if the 3D model punches through text/content which is behind it but visually in front.
