Area theater plans busy in 2024-25

Youngstown Playhouse celebrates its 100th anniversary. Selah Dessert Theater turns 10.

Theater has a long history in the Mahoning Valley, and there will be an abundance of opportunities to watch locals and college students trod the boards in musicals, dramas and comedies in the coming year.

Here’s what some area theaters have planned in 2024-25. As always, schedules are subject to change.

Easy Street Productions

Sept. 6-7 — The cabaret show “Girls Night Out! Returns.”

Oct. 25-27 — The musical / dance revue “Gotta Dance! A Celebration of Broadway’s Best.”

Dec. 15-17 — The holiday musical revue “Miracle on Easy Street.”

The cabaret show will be at Eleanor Beecher Flad Pavilion, and “Gotta Dance” and “Miracle” return to Powers Auditorium. Both venues are part of DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Tickets will be available at the DeYor box office, online at

Hopewell Theatre

Sept. 6-7 and 13-15 — “Morning’s at Seven.”

Dec. 6-7 and 13-15 — The farce “Steal Away.”

June 13-14 and 20-22 — The comedy / drama “Middletown.”

Kent State University

at Trumbull Theatre

Nov. 7-10 and 14-17 — “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

December — “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” a co-production with Hart School of Performing Arts.

March 2025 — The Shakespeare comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

July 2025 — “Matilda: The Musical.”

All shows will be staged in the Kent State University at Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW, Champion, except for Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” which will be staged outside Modern Methods Brewing Company, 125 David Grohl Alley, Warren. “Matilda” will be the 2025 Summer Stock musical. Millennial Theatre Company

Oct. 18-20 and 25-27 — The musical “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Nov. 29-Dec. 1 — The comedy “Who’s Holiday.”

Jan. 3-5 and 10-12, 2025 — The musical “The Prom.”

April 25-27 and May 2-4 — The musical “Be More Chill.”

Millennial Theatre Company will do all of its announced shows at Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, except for “The Prom,” which will be performed at Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. Tickets for MTC productions and more information are available at www.millennialtheatre.org.

Rust Belt Theater Company

Aug. 31 — Duets and Desserts.

Sept. 21 — Soups and Showstoppers.

Sept. 27-28 — “Cielito,” a one-woman show with Nicole Zayas-Balaz.

Oct. 18-19 and 25-26 — “Living Dead: The Musical.”

Oct. 26 — Howlloween, a werewolf-themed party.

Nov. 8-9 and 15-16 — “The Rockin’ Horribles.”

Dec. 7 — “Krampusnacht,” an immersive theater experience.

Dec. 13-15 and 20-22 — “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas.”

Rust Belt Theater Company is based at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, although it will continue to stage its popular “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” at two locations, the first weekend at Youngstown Playhouse (including a midnight show Dec. 14) and the second weekend back at Club Switch. Most performances start at 8 p.m., although Howlloween will start at 10 p.m. following the final performance of “Living Dead.” Tickets for Rust Belt shows are available by calling 330-507-2358.

Salem Community Theater

Sept. 19-22 — “Seussical the Musical.”

Oct. 25-27 — “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors.”

Dec. 12-15 — “A Christmas Carol.”

March 21-23, 2025 — The comedy “The Foreigner.”

May 8-11, 2025 — The musical “The Lion King Jr.”

July 10-13, 2025 — The musical “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”

Selah Dessert Theater

Sept. 6-7 — The one-man show “Mr. Lincoln.”

Nov. 7-9, 15-16 and 22-23 — The menacing comedy “The Birthday Party.”

Feb. 20-22, 28-March 1 and 7-8, 2025 — The comedy “Searching for Eden: The Diaries of Adam and Eve.”

May 8-10, 16-17 and 23-24, 2025 — The comedy “Ripcord.”

Sept. 7-8 — The musical comedy variety show “Senior Moments” (Stage Left Silver Players).

Oct. 5-7, 12-13 and 18-20 — The comedy “The Butler Did It.”

Nov. 22-24 — The musical “Where’s Rudolph?” (Stage Left Youth Players).

Dec. 6-8 and 13-15 — The musical “Jingle My Bell.”

Feb. 21-23 and 28-March 2, 2025 — The musical “Pump Boys & Dinettes.”

April 11-13, 2025 — The musical “Goldilocks in Bobby Socks” (Stage Left Youth Players).

June 20-22 and 27-29, 2025 — The musical “9 to 5.”

Trumbull New Theatre

Jan. 10-11, 17-19 and 24-26. 2025 — The mystery-comedy “Red Herring.”

March 7-8, 14-16 and 21-23, 2025 — The comedy “Last of the Red Hot Lovers.”

May 2-3, 9-11 and 16-18, 2025 — The comedy “Suite Surrender.”

March 28-30, 2025 — The musical “The Lightning Thief” (Playhouse Youth Theatre).

May 9-11 and 16-18, 2025 — The musical “Oklahoma” (Main Stage).

June 6-8 and 13-15, 2025 — The romantic comedy “Almost Maine” (Moyer Room).

June 21, 2025 — 100th Anniversary Gala.

Except for this weekend’s production of “Beautiful,” the 100th anniversary season productions will be staged at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown. Show times generally are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Nov. 22-24 — “Pete the Penguin’s Vintage Variety Show.”

Feb.14-16 and 21-23, 2025 — The comedy “Playboy of the Western World.”

April 4-6 and 11-13, 2025 — The musical “[title of show].”

All performances are at YSU’s Bliss Hall, either Ford Theater or Spotlight Theater. All except for the variety show and run for two weekends with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
