sham-e-gham uf zindagi thi meri ghabrai hui
meri hasti par faza-e-yas thi chhai hui
baDh rahi thi ek bechaini dil-e-nashad mein
bah rahe the ashk aankhon se kisi ki yaad mein
yaad aata tha koi rah rah ke mujh ko bar-bar
ho rahe the jis se ruKHsat hijr mein sabr-o-qarar
meri haalat koi us dam dekhne wala na tha

yaad aata ja raha tha mujh ko koi zar-nigar
jis pe hoti hai tasadduq sehn-e-gulshan ki bahaar

kya kahun 'shahid' kisi se thi ye aisi gham ki sham
