Iftikhar Naseem was born in1946 in Lyallpur- Pakistan and later moved to the U.S. He committed his life to writing, and has performed and published poetry in English, Urdu and Punjabi all over the world. Narman is one of his best books which means hermaphrodite" or "half-man, half-woman" in Persian. He died in Chicago on 22nd July 2011. Iftikhar Naseem was a gay Pakistani American poet. Having moved to the United States to escape persecution for his sexual orientation, he became known locally for establishing Sangat, an organization to support LGBT south-Asian youths, and internationally for publishing Narman, a poetry collection that was the first open expression of homosexual themes in the Urdu language. Iftikhar Naseem was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 1996
