He was born in 1943 in Amritsar, Punjab, British India. His complete name is Ata ul Haq Qasmi. His father’s name was Maulana Baha ul haq. His father used to teach in MAO High School and college in Amritsar. After the independence of Pakistan his family was migrated to Pakistan. They settled in Wazirabad and later moved to Lahore. He finished his high school here. After completing his graduation he joined Nawa-i-Waqt which is an Urdu language news paper. He was working as sub-editor and the renowned journalist Majid Nizami was editor. After that he started writing columns for Daily Jung and some other newspapers.
If we compare him with any other columnist we analyze that his writing style was unique. He has the quality to deal the most serious issues in a humorous way. Moreover he also served as the ambassador of Pakistan in Norway and Thailand from the year 1997 to 1999. Some of his columns include "Column Tamam", "Shar Goshiyan", "Hansna Rona Mana Hay", "Mazeed Ganjey Farishtey” and many more. He has also written many popular TV dramas including Khawaja and son, Shab Daig and Sheeda Taili. Shoq-e-awargi and goron k dais mein are the famous travelogues by him. These are his most popular readings. He also served as the chairman of the Lahore arts council in early 2015.
In 2015, he was appointed Chairman for Pakistan Television Corporation which is a state-owned institution. He has been associated and involved with Pakistan Television for over 35 years.
