Tom Tancredo is fighting cancer. If you are a believer in God and country, please join me in prayer for a dear friend, mentor and patriot. While I cannot offer any comfort from his physical pain and suffering, I will do what I can with my words to lift up his indomitable spirit.

Three modern leaders stand out as the pillars of the America First movement: Pat Buchanan, Tom Tancredo and Donald Trump. Long before Trump triumphantly won the White House in 2016 by promising to protect our borders and enforce our immigration laws, Buchanan and Tancredo made these signature issues in their presidential runs (Buchanan in 1992 and 1996; Tancredo in 2008). Tancredo was the bridge between Buchanan and Trump, all of whom battled inside and outside the Republican Party on behalf of our national sovereignty.

A former teacher, five-term U.S. congressman, husband, father and grandfather, Tom made all the right (and left) enemies in the Swamp. Liberal open-borders shills and Southern Poverty Law Center smear merchants called him “hardline,” “far-right,” “extreme,” “xenophobic” and “nativist” for doing what any American elected politician is sworn to do: secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity first and always. He founded the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus in 1999 to fight illegal immigration and uncontrolled, mass migration. At its peak, the group claimed 104 House members and seized power over GOP messaging from the pro-amnesty U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street Journal op-ed page (whose motto was “there shall be open borders”).

As I’ve written before, long before so many Johnnies-come-lately started waking up to the dire national security, public safety, public health and economic threats posed by unbridled illegal and legal immigration, Tom led the fight on Capitol Hill. In 2001, he introduced a landmark bill for a mass immigration moratorium. In the mid-2000s, Tancredo was mobbed and threatened during college campus speaking events for calling out entitled illegal alien radicals and advocating targeted immigration reduction limits to combat terrorism.

George W. Bush’s amnesty architect Karl Rove threatened Tom over his successful opposition to the ruinous Bush illegal alien giveaway, telling him he’d “never darken the White House doorstep” again. He triggered the outrage mob and the entire Bush clan when he went after soft-on-borders Jeb Bush (then-governor of Florida) in 2006 and dubbed Miami a “Third-World country.” (Twelve years later, President Donald Trump would set off the same triggers when he rightly complained about the flood of immigrants coming from “s—-hole countries”).

ORDER IT NOW

Libertarian former GOP House Majority Leader Dick Armey openly bragged about censoring Tom while they served in the House together, telling a National Press Club audience in 2010: “When I was the majority leader, I saw to it that Tom Tancredo did not get on the stage because I saw how destructive he was.” Destructive to the open-borders GOP donor base, that is. The silencing of true America First warriors by Conservatism Incorporated sellouts continues to this day, of course. Tom was a defiant cancel culture canary in the coal mine. He survived and thrived.

What Tom told me in 2014 when he ran for governor in Colorado holds true for every authentic America First Republican running for office: “The party bosses hate my candidacy because it represents a threat to their power and to the crony capitalists who want the government to supply them with cheap labor.”

Tom’s detractors in both parties accused him incessantly of “hate.” But he is simply a lover of unvarnished truth. On the campaign trail, in the halls of Congress and in real life, he was and is one of the most genial and kind human beings I’ve had the privilege to know.

As I wrote to him in a text message last week while he was undergoing chemotherapy: “I will never forget the kindness you showed me twenty years ago when I asked you to write an endorsement for my first book, Invasion. We have long shared a love for our country — and for Colorado, a place I’ve happily shared as a home for the past 14 years. I was so honored to support your run for governor and your fight against those trying to destroy this beautiful state. The forces of evil tried to cancel your voice time and time again but your voice will never be silenced. You always told it like it is! You have served our country so valiantly and left an indelible mark on the America First movement. Most importantly, you guarded your independence and integrity and always put family first.”

In typical humble and cheerful Tom fashion, he replied: “Thank you so much … I wish I could always live up to those accolades. God bless you.” No, Tom. Thank you. We who carry the America First flame are eternally indebted to you. Godspeed.

  1. Prayers for an American patriot.

  2. The moment you say or do anything that reflects just natural decency, you’re called “far-right extremist.” Yet calling a man a woman, vice versa, insisting an unborn child is not real nor alive and rather equating her to a “convulsing corpse after death,” according to a certain woman on the Supreme Court, is a normal mindset and not extreme at all! Wow!

Luckily Biden is going to install another mentally retarded Womynz of Colorâ„¢ on the Supreme Court so we'll all get decades more of hilarious quotes from some shrieking joyless harpy that should by all accounts be helping to raise her grandkids rather than deciding the fates of millions. Diversity is so fun, guys
  3. And it looks like Wikipedia has smeared him as a NeoCon warmonger!

    Foreign policy

Tancredo’s position on Iraq is, “America’s noble sacrifice has purchased Iraqis a precious opportunity for democratic change; it is now up to them to ensure success. Setting the President’s ‘November benchmark for shifting control’ as an actual timetable for disengagement will let regional powers and Iraqi factions cooperate to forge a new balance of power.” Fellow Republican State Treasurer Mike Coffman refused to share the stage with Tancredo at a pro-war rally for the Iraq war in 2003 because of Tancredo’s failure to serve in the Vietnam War. In 1970 Tancredo appealed his 1-A draft status, which would have put him at the top of the list for draft eligibility during the Vietnam War. Tancredo said he was diagnosed with depression when he was 16 or 17 and received medication for five years for panic attacks and bouts of anxiety and depression.

During a 2005 radio interview on Orlando talk-radio station WFLA AM 540, Tancredo responded to a questioner asking about the hypothetical U.S. response to a nuclear attack on U.S. cities by al-Qaeda, by saying that one possible response would be to retaliate by “taking out” Muslim holy sites (specifically, Mecca) if it were clearly proven that Islamic terrorists were behind such an attack. Several days later, in an interview on CNN together with James Zogby, Tancredo said that the attack was mentioned merely as a hypothetical response and insisted that there was nothing for which he should apologize.

During the Republican Presidential Debate broadcast on Fox on May 15, 2007, Tancredo made a statement in passing that the root cause of Islamic terrorism is “a dictate of their religion”. In September 2007 Tancredo defended his remarks: “I still believe it is something we must consider as a possible deterrent because at the present time there are no negative consequences that would accrue to the people who commit a crime such as a nuclear, chemical or biological attack.”

During a July 31, 2007 townhall meeting in Iowa, Tancredo said that a threat to bomb Mecca and Medina was “the only thing I can think of” that could deter a nuclear terrorist attack. This statement drew substantial criticism from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, as well as State Department spokesman Tom Casey, who stated that “To somehow suggest that an appropriate response to terrorism would be to attack sites that are holy and sacred to more than a billion people throughout the world is just absolutely crazy.”

Patriots have a R2P Ukrainian incubator babies!

  5. Mr Tancredo, like Ms Malkin, like to wave immigration like the bloody shirt, but are non-serious about stopping undocumented aliens. Tancredo never introduced legislation that would confiscate and close any business found to employ even a single undocumented person, never introduced legislation that would have made it a strict liability felony to employ an undocumented immigrant (chargeable against the officers and directors of a company), nor did he introduce legislation that would seize the assets of an individual who employed an undocumented worker (like to do landscaping or contractor work). If someone does not support those measures, they are unserious. The only way to tackle illegal immigration is on the demand side–target the employers.

Reality is rich Republican types the the Koch family want undocumented workers in the country to bid down wages. The war on immigration needs to be fought with Republican small business, wealthy republicans who hire undocumented labor at their homes, and corporations that seek to bid down wages.

  6. Tancredo was one of the early giants who fought against illegal immigration and he always argued for the right to have U.S. citizens get jobs first. I sincerely wish him well. He fought the good fight, against all of the traitors to American citizens and legal residents. It was the usual crowd, Pelosi, Schumer, in fact, all of the democrats and most of the Republicans. May they all receive their just fruits for selling out taxpaying hardworking, citizens, in favor of foreign nationals who did not contribute one cent to the nation, as well as those who did nothing but commit crime once they got here.

  7. Michelle, thanks for reminding us what we owe Tom Tancredo, among a very short list of modern American politicians who can justifiably be called patriots. His career was an early victim of the immigration invasion racket. Tom’s convictions were perhaps too early to make much headway but they remain alive.

I join you in praying for his recovery.

  8. Foreigners are pouring in due to the welfare magnet that politicians, like this guy, get (re-) elected to enhance. Walls, border patrols, etc. won’t stop a parasitic foe determined to receive our tax-funded freebies.

The way to stop the invasion, in its tracks, is to eliminate all the spending programs, e.g. free pre-K thru 14. Indeed, [actions to make government less big] will motivate the US-born tax leeches, still a big majority here, to self-deport back to whichever s*hole, European country their *-grandparents fled from.

Wrong. They all came for the jobs ... they work at your fast food restaurant, in the poultry factory that brings you you chicken, cutting your lawn, painting your house, doing your laundry. They all have jobs. It is white college graduates age 27 who are unemployed and using welfare.

  10. Many thanks to Michelle Malkin for making us aware of Tom’s condition. Prayers have been sent.

People like Tom sometimes pursue political objectives that may or may not be immediately met (e.g., Gov. of Colo.) but there is something far more important that they always achieve in their endeavor: they give hope to tens of millions of Americans who see significant portions of their country being flushed down a leftist sinkhole. Thank you, Tom, for all the good you’ve done and all the hope you’ve given us. Get well and stay well!!

  11. I thank God that Harry, a butt licking tool of corporate America, provides us a clear picture between cowardice and courage. Tom Tancredo is a great American, flaws and all.

  12. I’m so sorry to read this news. I’ll be praying for Mr. Tom Tancredo as he was one of the few politicians that I knew who fought for this country and not his own wallet. Thank you Michelle for letting us know. I may live in New England, but I’d have voted for him every time he ran if I could have. May God grant him a full recovery.
