Russia blogger/retired Canadian diplomat Patrick Armstrong highlights a big new poll from Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung/Levada in his latest Russia Sitrep:
RUSSIAN YOUTH. It’s a widespread delusion, strengthened by the narrow circle Western reporters talk to in Russia, that “the government’s anti-Western agenda and reports of widespread corruption are turning young Russians against the leader.”Levada has done a survey of Russian youth and that’s pretty hard to find; in general they’re not far off their parents: a bit more liberal but also a bit more nationalist. Perhaps the most interesting result was that a solid majority thought Russia was not European. Robinson discusses. He wonders why so few show much support for “‘classical’ civil and political liberties”. My guess is that 20 years of observation of Western practice of these noble ideals has soured them.
Main points of interest:
1. Young Russian are both more nationalist and more liberal than Russians as a whole – as indeed I have argued before, based on voting patterns. However, unlike voting for the KPRF, it looks like there’s no difference in Communist views.
2. There is little sign of convergence to progressive American/West European norms. Quoting Robinson:
This is reflected in the fact most respondents said that they were proud to be Russian, while only 14% felt that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a good thing. Around 50% agree with the statement that, ‘Real Russians are only those who have Russian blood in their veins’, and there is a large majority which believes that Russia should not accept more immigrants or refugees. Around 15% expressed a desire to emigrate (a much smaller number than has been pushed around in some earlier reports). The primary reason cited for emigration is the possibility of earning more money in the West. This suggests that the West still has some appeal for young Russians. However, the younger generation doesn’t feel Western, as can be seen by responses to the question ‘Do you fully agree, rather agree, rather disagree, or strongly disagree with the statement “Russia is a European country”?’ As the chart below shows, only 36% ‘rather’ or ‘fully’ agree, whereas 58% ‘rather’ or ‘fully’ disagree. This provides little succour to those who hope that the young generation will turn Russia in a European direction. …
Incidentally, Putin has just confirmed that as well:
Scientific victory is the best victory in Civilizationhttps://t.co/gaQnHOcyTS
— RT (@RT_com) May 17, 2020
80% of them consider that it would be a ‘bad’ thing if a homosexual individual or couple moved into their neighbourhood. On the other hand, heterosexual activity before marriage doesn’t seem to bother them.
So much for hopes that Navalny (or someone even more liberal) will replace Putin.
Keep on looking forwards. There are only three realistic alternatives after Putin, in order of decreasing likelihood:
1) Appointed successor to Putin.
2) A populist-nationalist in the mold of Orban or Netanyahu.
3) Right-wing death squadshttps://t.co/C0swpjgBL4— 🇷🇺 ANATꙮLY 🤔 KARLIN (@akarlin88) January 16, 2019
And just to (again) clear up a couple of long-running canards:
No, Muslim minorities are not “replacing” Russians (9% amongst young people vs. 8% population average).
No, there’s no indications that we should expect a wave of emigration – only 15% “strongly” want to emigrate.

This is a positive sign for the country. The point is not to heap hate on anyone-it is simply that this shows the Russian mind has not been colonized by absurdities (that a man bumping anothers bum is anything but sick).
I watch a ton of Russian TV serials and the culture from that perspective seems quite healthy. It is truly a breath of fresh air to watch redeeming stories about real people, with mostly a healthy sense of right and wrong, masculine and feminine, duty and honor. The serials still have good and bad guys, where in the west the good are bad and the bad are just misunderstood.
I hope they can keep it going-the descent to madness in the west was FAST! In 30 years we went from a 1980s that looked like the picture these Russian serials paint to full blown madness.

If you think about it, in the West, we actually have a kind of opposite system. Not uncensored - but where governments fund NGOs and then these NGOS tell them to insert more gays and non-whites into everything. Anti-civilization and anti-culture by mandate. I understand that video games are kind of similar - they are incentivized to be woke, in order to get government subsidy, though I imagine it also works on other levels.
This is pretty encouraging regarding future political developments in Russia. Still Russia needs a true opposition party to the elite, which is utterly corrupt and pozzed by western ideas (chiefly neo liberalism). The real question in my opinion is who will be the new Limonov?

An interesting map; https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/05/15/a-fascinating-map-of-the-worlds-most-and-least-racially-tolerant-countries/
The anti-gay thing seems to be particularly a Russian/Eastern European thing. In Britain even people who would be considered as “far-right” are not strongly anti-gay and even side with gays when it’s politically convenient to do so, such as against Islamisation.
As an example there was an article on Breitbart yesterday about big opposition to plans for a large mosque in Central London, and the council have received many letters of opposition, and the argument is that it’s an unsuitable area because it’s near a gay district. So basically this is a case of British right wingers siding with gays once again.
Just imagine an immigration policy formulated by gays and trannies!
Though, I understand with the mosques - you have to use what works. That's environmental objections and gay objections. Mosques are an attempt to control territory - non-Muslims will move away from areas where mosques are built because of the annoying call to prayer and because of parking issues and crowds of browns. I hear that Muslims often harass and threaten people, so that they will sell them their property cheap to build a mosque. I think Moscow has the right approach to mosques: they are big, but there are only four of them.Replies: @Just Passing Through, @128, @Dumbo

France is surprisingly “racist” by European standards. Although I wonder if a lot of that is the large non-white population in France saying they wouldn’t want to live next door to anyone other than their own people, hence ethnic enclaves.
The Israeli percentage is clearly nonsense though, Jews and Arabs live in designated areas in Israel. There is no such thing as different races being next door neighbours there. I suppose it’s easy for Israelis to say they wouldn’t mind when it’s legally impossible to ever happen any way.
We have ethnic enclaves in the UK, but nothing as bad as France, there are regular riots in the banlieues.

It often goes unremarked upon, but I think this tranny-nationalism – where people object to Muslim immigration on the basis that it will harm gays and trannies is as bad or worse than Israel-surrogate nationalism – where many cucks only feel comfortable standing up for Israel, not their own countries.

I’d be curious what sort of censorship system exists in Russia. I believe that they would stop gay messaging? Are there gay characters on TV? But maybe, they also put in positive messages about traditional gender roles, or a natalist message, by government decree.

Although integration of foreign races is impossible, different countries seem to have done it better than other. We in the UK have done reasonably well, but I don’t think France has. It must also be remembered that Britain decolonised in a relatively peaceful manner while France let go of Algeria after a fairly brutal guerilla war with the FLN, meaning there was much ethnic alienation which probably continues to this day, I believe 300 or so Algerians were killed in Paris 1961 by the police, these Algerians were pro-FLN.

What usually happens is that the Muslims send their offspring back to their ancestral homelands to get married and bring the spouse back, there is a chain migration effect that goes on. Muslim behaviour is pretty diabolical in itself so people just move away. A lot of pubs have been converted into mosques.
In 2006 I knew a young Russian Au Pair who had an American boyfriend, who asked her to marry her. She said no, so he countered, “Don’t you want to go to Amerca?” Her reply, “Why would I want to go to America?”
If that was the case in 2006, I doubt it is any less the case in 2020.

The lower percentage following Islam among the younger generation is really interesting, almost hard to believe. Everyone knows the Muslim inhabited regions have higher TFR than Russia as a whole. Even in the context of a general Christian revival, we would still expect the proportion of Muslims to increase slightly. What is going on here? Just the usual polling MOE? Systemic conversion away from Islam?

yeah, that little non-white, anti-white “enclave” known as LONDON.
It’s not lower – it is 9% among young people vs. 8% among the general public.
So Russian kids are more nationalist but they’re like the new, rebellious cuck form of nationalist that is also popular in the West, comprised of people who were originally liberals and whose family tree was made up of liberals. Russian youth are less likely to belong to the true nationalists (The proponents ot a firm-hand approach), most of whom are in their 70s and have a family history of nationalism.
Older people are more religious, and the percentage of agnostics and atheists among young people is significantly higher
Sounds like us in the 80’s.

In context, I think Russians associate being “European” as gay. It has been a Russian nationalist attack on Europe for a long time. Ask say “Do you want Russia to be anormal European country?” and you would get a very different answer. A different Pavlovian response.
So, Russians don’t want more immigrants from the Caucasus and Central Asia (aka their former countrymen), but they also lament the fact that they stopped ruling over tens of millions of Caucasians and (primarily) Central Asians? Or would Russians have preferred it if southern Central Asia (minus Turkmenistan, due to its vast natural gas reserves) would have seceded while the rest of the USSR would have remained intact?
So, Catherine the Great was not a “Real Russian”?
But check out the nationality on her horse!
Another way to read the same data:
Muslims increasing by (9%-8%)/8% = 13% per generation.
Christians decreasing by (60%-70%)/70% = 14% per generation.
Will no denom/don’t know (increasing by 40% per generation) fight to preserve their (non) way of life?
Yes, or conversely you could say gay-tolerance is a Western/Northwestern European thing. Inner-Hajnal Europe, especially at the elite level, has been homo-tolerant for a long time. England, France and Germany all have had too many queer royals to name. By contrast I can’t think of a single gay Slavic royal. Virility just seems to hold a greater premium in the Slavosphere.
Although the "gay friendliness" of Spain surprises me somewhat because I wouldn't have thought Spanish culture, being traditionally very Catholic and conservative, would be particularly amenable to LGBT types.Replies: @Anuxicus, @Almost Missouri
There’s no such thing as a “Slavic royal”; the Slavic world’s royal families were dissolved (in acid) under Communism.
In 1917. I’m counting royals all the way back to the Middle Ages. There have been plenty of Czars and Czarinas in between. Plus all the nobility of Poland, Bulgaria, etc.
France is strange because it is the European country where I saw more Africans and Arabs mixed with the White population. At least in the big cities, it’s a jungle, schools are a multicultural mess, and there’s a lot of race-mixing too. I think in the countryside or small villages it’s different, they see the writing on the wall, so they become more racist. I don’t know. In termos of migration, of all European countries, France and UK seem to be the worst. Although Italy might be getting dangerously close too.

Many gays, just like many single women, are in favour of immigration, for obvious reasons, they don’t care so much about territoriality and there are potentially more sexual partners. There are a lot of Muslim fags too, or Muslims who discover their inner fagdom once they move to the West and are freer to act on sexual desires. Some become rapey but others become fairies. It’s a tough contest as to which is worse, globo-homo or Islam, but globo-homo seems to be more corrupting in the end.
If you are talking about any nobles, there was Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich who was a grandson of Nicholas I. He was gay but had nine children. I’d suppose the reason for any discrepancy was that the press was less free in Russia, and in Soviet times, when the US already started making gay propaganda, the communist party banned a lot stuff for promoting free sexuality.
This could get quite absurd since most ‘royalty’ in Europe had very mixed origins. In the early Middle Ages they were broadly of Italian origin, with an admixture of Byzantines, Franks and Norsemen. Then French, High Germans, northern Spaniards, and eastern princes like Jagiellos were added. And Poles, Rus, Scots, etc… The royals were the first European multi-ethnic melange. We have seen how that has worked out for them, most couldn’t carry on the line.
The royals’ life didn’t lend itself to robust child-bearing – they were the original end-of-liners. Lately that mentality and lifestyle has spread to the other Europeans. As we see with the royals it might not be reversible. It is either a British-like royal ‘reservation’, going native, or they disappear.
Genetically going native is by far the best strategy. That requires work. And as we know work is the activity that nobody wants to do otherwise. And there lies the problem.

Precisely. If I see an obviously non-European man or woman, all the better if they are head to toe in the Pakistani pyjamas. It’s so obviously foreign, uncomfortable and just…gross.
When they are like that, ghetto-isation and parallel societies are far more likely outcomes. And until forced re-settlement becomes an option, I would much rather live in a parallel society where interaction with these foreigners is at a minimum. Not having to share my places of commerce, socialising or work/education.
Even with current below-replacement Euro birthrates in the UK (realistically TFR is hovering just over 1.6), there will still be 50 million + of us in 50 years, so it is important to continue maintaining functional mini-societies of our own.

In Britain, French-style assimilation is considered racist and bigoted. The left wing view in Britain is that immigrants should be free to live in their own parallel communities, speak what ever language they want and not integrate at all if they don’t want to.
The mentality is that immigrants “enrich” British culture, not vice versa. The expectation is that British culture must change to accommodate the presence of immigrant cultures rather than they conform to ours.
Leftists frequently like to claim that the British have no culture of their own and what culture we do have is just a mish-mash of foreign and immigrant cultures cobbled together and that basically we should be thankful to immigrants for bringing us culture.
True, although I’m not sure if it’s specifically skewed towards North West Europe, because the most pro-gay country in Europe is probably Spain. They legalised gay marriage many years before the UK did.
Although the “gay friendliness” of Spain surprises me somewhat because I wouldn’t have thought Spanish culture, being traditionally very Catholic and conservative, would be particularly amenable to LGBT types.
Oh, I just thought of one: Pope Francis. Of course, technically, he's Argentinian, and the son of Italian immigrants, so he shouldn't really count.

Another conservative, christian country that suprised me with legalizing same sex marriage was South Africa, which did it 8 years before the UK and a decade before the US.
1. Post-Apartheid ANC government is very socialist/Communist in ethos and sees solidarity with "oppressed minorities" (except whites!) like LGBT as a key political gesture. Such gestures also create the impression of being a "modern Western nation" which is probably good for foreign investment too.
2. I think there is a native tradition of homosexuality amongst blacks, maybe more so than in Western Europe, so I don't think blacks are particularly inclined to be anti-gay given the right political circumstances for it, such as a "left wing" African nationalist government. In most black countries I think the undercurrent of homosexuality is moderated by religious conservatism, be it Christianity or Islam, but like Europe and North America, such religious/conservative values are on the wane in South Africa, which is probably not surprising as it is by far the most Westernised African country.

Yeah, I said Northwestern because even though I could think a few prominent Italian homosexuals, I couldn’t think of any Iberian homosexuals, royal or otherwise. Certainly Spain’s outsize conquests during the Age of Exploration owed something to its uncompromisingly macho culture.
Oh, I just thought of one: Pope Francis. Of course, technically, he’s Argentinian, and the son of Italian immigrants, so he shouldn’t really count.
If the atheist Czechs had a 13% compounding minority among them how long would they remain?
The Windsors have been reduced to celebrities. Now, they need to signal globohomo values. – to eat curry and make angry black ladies into baronesses. They seem to hold little purpose, and it would probably be better to restart the royal family from scratch, always selecting and breeding for traits, and keeping it British, instead of allowing mixing with mulattoes.
I would speculate it happened in South Africa for a couple of reasons.

Hey, hey now!
Yes, I certainly get that, but the interesting thing is that the collapse of the USSR left more “undesirable” people (specifically Caucasians and especially Central Asians) outside of Russia’s borders in the long(er)-run than the amount of “desirable” people (specifically Eastern Slavs) that it left outside of Russia’s borders. So, if one views the loss of a “desirable” person as a negative and the loss of an “undesirable” person as a positive (of the same numerical value, just with the +/- signs reversed), then from a demographic perspective, in the long(er)-run, the collapse of the USSR was a net positive since, again, it resulted in more “undesirable” people being removed from Russia than the number of “desirable” people who were removed from Russia. Plus, this is not to mention that Russia can allow any “desirable” person outside of Russia’s borders who wants to live under Russian rule to immigrate there while, of course, continuing the keep the “undesirable” people out of Russia.
