Egor Ligachev, leader of the "conservative" wing of the CPSU under Gorbachev, died yesterday at the age of 100. He was a teetotaller who took good care of his health. The cause of death was bilateral pneumonia, though his son says it wasn't COVID-19. By all accounts, he was a decent and uncorrupt man, e.g.... Read More
Vladimir Avdeev (1962-2020) was probably the foremost exponent of what we may very loosely term "HBD" in Russia, if we may treat phrenology-based Nordic/Dinaric race theories from a 1930s time capsule as such. He did contribute some useful things, most notably through arranging translations of more modern Western literature on the subject (e.g. many of... Read More
Unfortunately, I never met or even personally communicated with James Flynn. There is a good chance this would have happened during the annual ISIR conference that was to take place in Amsterdam this year, but then Corona-chan happened instead. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Mr. XYZ, one of the regular commenters... Read More
This has not been a good year for Russian nationalists mortality-wise. The NazBol Eduard Limonov died in March, while the natsdem (liberal nationalist) Konstantin Krylov passed away in May. And now, the OG of Russian Neo-Nazism, "Tesak" (lit. "Hatchet", real name: Maxim Martsinkevich), a skinhead of Polish-Russian ancestry who can be said to have invented... Read More
May 26, 2020 saw the death of Jon Hellevig, one of the most interesting and colorful figures at the intersection of the Moscow expat and "Russia watching" worlds. (Before you ask, as it's topical in the news - no, not COVID-19). The Swedish-Finnish descendant of three Tsarist generals - his great-great-grandfather Gripenberg was a governor... Read More
Konstantin Krylov in Moscow, Oct 2018 (own photo). 2020 is becoming quite the bleak year for Russian nationalism in demographic terms. After Limonov's passing on March 17, he is now followed by leader of the banned National Democratic Party (NDP) party Konstantin Krylov, who has just died at the age of 52 from stroke-related complications... Eduard Limonov (Savenko), Soviet dissident who retained a juvenile sense of mischief through to his old age, for which he was nicknamed "Grandpa" by his humoristic understanders; superlative essayist who did for sex in the Russian language what Dostoevsky had done for family relations; warrior-essayist driven by overflowing passionarity in the vein of Yukio Mishima... My favorite McCain story is when he demanded Pravda give him an op-ed like the NYT did for Putin. Clearly that was the only Russian newspaper fossil had heard about. Pravda was a bottom-tier tabloid - of the sort that are big on alien abduction stories - that very few read, and McCain duly got... Read More
For what my views are worth - which is very little, especially in China - I am always for freedom of speech. That said, it's worth clarifying that the late Liu Xiaobo was much more a Western nationalist than a genuine humans right activist. "[It would take] 300 years of colonialism. In 100 years of... Ilya Glazunov, one of Russia's great painters is dead at the age of 87. The "official" art of the modern age is an aesthetic desert; a postmodernist joke that celebrates fraudsters and degenerates, and benefits art dealers and billionaires. Yet there are still men of idealism, far from the cameras and the accolades of handshakeworthy... Read More
I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.
One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.
Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
