America's ability to draw high quality human capital from abroad is one of the lynchpins of its economic strengths and probably goes some ways to explaining why it's GDP per capita is significantly higher than would might be predicted from its national IQ. Alexander Kruel recently had a Twitter thread about precisely which groups of... Read More
US Embassy in Moscow: Trump - Muslim travel ban. Biden - Russian travel ban. Anyhow, as I keep saying, this "social distancing" from the US and the West in general is a good idea. It blunts the impact of bad Western memes and tars their promoters within Russia by association. Meanwhile, it's not as if... Read More
I have written that Moscow - not to mention the rest of Russia - remains an overwhelmingly (that is, 85%-90% Slavic) megapolis. The Myth of Moskvabad From Russia to Russabia? Not Anytime Soon I don't see the need to reiterate something that only remains an obsession for a few liberal racists masquerading as Russian nationalists,... Read More
I am not going to read Yglesias' book. But the one thing I will say for the idea of One Billion Americans is that it's likely the only way, even theoretically, that the US can remain competitive with China in later 21 century, as it translates its high human capital into per capita convergence and... Didn't blog about it at the time, but just a bit more than a week ago, Putin formally signed Russia's new immigration law easing citizenship requirements for Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Kazakhstan nationals (something that I long advocated). It's not an open borders project (the kneejerk hysterics of a few anti-Putin Russian nationalists aside). It's... Read More
As I argued in my 2011 article on National Wealth and IQ at the Edge: American Exceptionalism, East Asian Mediocrity, the US is surprisingly wealthy for a country for a country of its national IQ, which is respectable but modest by developed country standards. There are many possible reasons for it, which I listed (e.g.... Read More
RT: Speeding car FLIPS OVER amid clashes between Chechen and Arab gangs in Dijon, France (VIDEOS) According to the Chechens, the Algerians started it by beating up a 16 year old boy at a shisha bar. The Chechens then called in reinforcements from all over France. Anyhow, my bet is on the Chechens. It will... Read More
When the results of PISA 2018 were unveiled, there was significant skepticism about the much improved results from Sweden, based on the unimpressive coverage ratio (86%, vs. 99% in Germany) and large share of pupils excluded on account of being "new arrivals" (11%, vs. 0.4% in Germany) Expressen reports: Sweden's PISA success is based on... There is one, up until now relatively Sinophile, major European nation that will likely receive a massive influx of Chinese immigrants over the next decade - possibly as many a million - and radically transform as a consequence. I am talking, of course, about Britain. While there are currently 300,000 active BN(O)'s in Hong Kong,... Read More
As of April 24, 2020, you no longer have to give up your foreign citizenship to get a Russian one. Proposed text of Russia's migration reforms on the Kremlin website (via Google Translate w/ manual edits) follows the neo-nationalist line I have been propounding and reporting on for the past year. This, at least, is the result of an instructive poll carried out recently amongst Turks. Here's the three main takeaways: 1. Erdogan's popularity is at a relative low point. 2. 49% of Turks don't want their military in Idlib, vs. 31% who do. 3. 60% don't think refugees will return home after the war, 71%... Read More
There are millions of Gastarbeiters from Central Asia and the Caucasus in Russia. But contra /pol/ wignats and Ukrainian svidomy, it really doesn't seem like the Kremlin intends for them to stay. RT is now reporting that Putin said Russia may offer fast-track citizenship to all Ukrainians at the Belt and Road summit in Beijing. He has also reacted forcefully to critics of giving Donbass residents citizenship: So what did I tell you? This as good as confirms that PUTLER reads my blog. Back in October 2018,... Read More
Here is how emigre journalist Bershidsky (who likes mass immigration to Europe but not to Saudi Arabia) sees the end of history (Russia edition): So Russia's fate is to be a mineral resource depot, dumping ground for Third Worlders, and cannon fodder for the retirement home and taxpayer funded mansion for Somalis better known as... Hot on the heels of the Center for Immigration Studies report comes a study from the PEW polling organization, which estimates that there were 250,000 births to illegal immigrants in the US in 2016. Given the vast challenges in estimating births to illegals, the degree of agreement between the two organizations - which have rather... Read More
The Center for Immigration Studies appears to have had a rather productive October. Apart from their report on illegal immigrant births, they have also produced a report on general immigration to the US as of 2016. As of 2016, immigration was at its highest level since 1999, when it peaked at 1.797 million. What's striking,... Read More
A recent Center for Immigration Studies report estimates that 297,073 of the 3,971,146 births in the US in 2014 accrued to illegal immigrants, or 7.5% of the total. This is a primarily Latino phenomenon. This is obvious just from the five states which, at more than 10%, have the highest percentage of births accruing to... Read More
I wrote about upcoming changes to Russian immigration policy a few days ago. Its main point boiled down to creating simplified naturalization procedures for people facing political persecution, with a clear eye to the Ukraine, as well as for highly qualified foreigners. I had two criticisms. First, simplified naturalization for "humanitarian reasons" doesn't do anything... Read More
I just had a look at the website of the Pittsburgh "Tree of Life" synagogue that Robert Bowers shot up. Couple of telling Breitbart headlines. * 42% of children in West Germany comes from migrant background It's a double whammy. I have often argued that Communism "froze" social attitudes in the socialist bloc relative to the West, which was strongly influenced by the US. WaPo: Why Russia is wooing South Africa’s white farmers Certainly, as I keep pointing out, this would come as a great surprise to Russian nationalists themselves. Alexey Bessudnov (2016) - Ethnic Hierarchy and Public Attitudes towards Immigrants in Russia Interesting paper on attitudes towards immigrants in Russia. Big sample (n=24,500). Data from European Social Survey Round 8 (2016) via Alexandre Afonso (h/t Emil): In ordered form: Russia might not as hardcore as Czechia or Hungary, but it's still way more skeptical of alien immigration than the European average. One of the problems critics of mass immigration face is that there aren't that many concrete statistics on their crime rates (substantially thanks to European institutions being in the habit of forbidding the gathering of said race/ethnicity data). About Anatoly Karlin

I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.

One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.

Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
