Since the start of this year, the Ukraine has mounted an accelerating campaign to shut down all "pro-Russia" (apostrophes because more often than not they're not so much explicitly pro-Russian, as merely less anti-Russian and more oppositionist than the mainstream) media. Examples include: This February saw the shutdown of three TV channels (112 Ukraine, NewsOne... Read More
Unfortunately, I never met or even personally communicated with James Flynn. There is a good chance this would have happened during the annual ISIR conference that was to take place in Amsterdam this year, but then Corona-chan happened instead. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Mr. XYZ, one of the regular commenters... Read More
Some Berlin-based organization called the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) has compiled a global "Academic Freedom Index." It reminds one of that ranking showing the US best prepared for a pandemic, and indeed, to confirm my point, the GPPi proceeded to Block me when I made that point to them on Twitter. Evolutionary psychologist Lee... Read More
Sure, it's something that people want to signal they support. That is because it is a prestigious view, and higher IQ people with correspondingly higher levels of social discernment realize that, and act accordingly. But only so long as you stay within the reservation, as Glenn Greenwald's revelation about the Harper's letter demonstrates: I do... Read More
Dr. Priyamvada Gopal is (was) a Reader in "postcolonial literature" and "critical race studies" at Churchill College in the University of Cambridge. But then, a couple of days ago, she made a politically controversial and highly racially charged statement: She is no longer a Reader. Because the day afterwards, she was made a full Professor:... "Intelligence researcher" doesn't exactly have a reputation as a safe, uncontroversial profession. There are perhaps 200 people in the world who do that full-time. Despite this small population, we seem to get a story - often multiple stories - of them getting denounced, defamed, deplatformed, threatened, and even physically attacked every single year. Thanks to... Read More
(1) So yes, basically everyone Alt Right OR Alt Lite is now getting their channels deleted, demonetized, or at least having some of their videos deleted. I don't closely follow the vlogosphere, but here is a Twitter thread that seems to be pretty comprehensive. It's worth pointing out that demonetization is nearly as bad as... Read More
So EU citizens can no longer insult the Prophet Mohammed: Obviously that isn't going to be applied to insulting Christian figures anytime soon. To the contrary, those few European countries that still have blasphemy on the books are fast doing away with it. Here is how Talha says things might look like in a (real)... Read More
In a recent post scriptum to one of his articles, Israel Shamir mentioned the trial of a Holocaust denier in Russia, a professor at Perm University called Roman Yushkov. Yushkov's "crime" was to approvingly repost a 2005 article by Anton Blagin, which is pretty much what it says on the tin: "Jews! Return Germans their... Read More
Approximately 100,000 Russians took part in the remembrance march marking the centenary of the murder of the Romanov family. Just for context, this now seemingly remote event, in a regional city with 10% of the population of Moscow, drew as many people as did the very largest protests of the Putin era. It is also... Q: Is it true that there is freedom of speech in the United Kingdom, just like in the USA? A: In principle, yes. In the USA, you can stand in front of the White House in Washington, DC, and yell, "Down with Trump!", and you will not be punished. Equally, you can also stand in... Read More
You will have to excuse the paucity of posting this month. Many things going on. But I hope to get the Romania post out today. I predicted that Russia would win against Saudi Arabia and Egypt (both happened), but would lose against Uruguay. We'll see what happens tomorrow. * Turkey Presidential & legislative elections. My... I have noted that one of the reasons that one of many reasons Putin can't be considered to be a nationalist is that... well, he locks up so many of them under Article 282. See my article Country 282: Avoiding Russia's Hate Speech Laws Since conviction rates are virtually 100%, getting charged with Article 282,... Read More
Just back from Portugal. Will share impressions in a later post (most are positive). I'll be doing quite a bit of traveling this summer. I'll be in London again soon [business], will probably stop by in Denmark this May [because a certain event can no longer take place in London for political reasons], will be... Read More
London Student: Exposed: London’s eugenics conference and its neo-Nazi links Some background: This scandal broke out when Toby Young, a conservative British political figure with a colorful history of Twitter controversies, was appointed to a government board on education - and removed almost instantaneously, after this story broke in The London Student, and was subsequently... Eurasian Federation, 2049. Half a year ago I wrote about the absurd legal case against Dmitry Bobrov, a Russian nationalist who was sentenced for using extremist terminology such as "the great Russian people." No, I am not even exaggerating, here is the formal conclusion of the court's "linguistics expert," Galina Melnik (who is also a... Read More
If legal policy towards human biodiversity/race realism/racist hate speech (cross out as per your ideological preferences) ranges from mildly to severely repressive across Europe and Canada, then in Russia it can best be described as schizophrenic. There is more freedom of association than in Europe or even the US: You can specify "Slavs Only"/"No Caucasians"... Read More

About Anatoly Karlin

I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.

One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.

Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
