TxDMV issues forestry vehicle registration for vehicles used exclusively for transporting forest products in their natural state, including logs, debarked logs, untreated ties, stave bolts, plywood billets, wood chips, stumps, sawdust, moss, bark, wood shavings and property used in production of those products.
The registration year for Forestry Vehicle License Plates is April 1 through March 31 of the following year. Registration fees are prorated when issued for less than 12 months.
Forestry License Plates must be renewed annually. Renewal forms are mailed each year prior to the March 31 expiration date.
How to Apply
Visit TxFLEET.TxDMV.gov and click on the link "Apply for Motor Carrier Account". Each new application must include evidence of financial responsibility or liability insurance issued by an insurance company authorized to write Motor Vehicles Liability Insurance in Texas.
Texas title must be in the applicant’s name before being approved. If the vehicle is leased a copy of the lease agreement must be submitted.

The registration fee is based on the gross vehicle weight, plus applicable local county fees, cab card and plate fees.

Note: The gross vehicle weight of a vehicle is determined by adding the empty weight of the vehicle and the heaviest load that will be carried by the vehicle (carrying capacity) during the registration year. Fees are payable by cash, personal check, business check, cashier's check or money order in person, or online via electronic check (ACH).
Fees are payable online using electronic check (ACH) or credit card (a service charge of 25 cents plus 2.25 percent will be added).

If the gross vehicle weight of your vehicle is 55,000 pounds or more, Federal law requires that proof of payment of the Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) be provided at time of vehicle registration. See the application form for acceptable proof documents.
