Dodgers sign Joe Jacques to minor league contract, per report

The Dodgers signed left-hander Joe Jacques to a minor league contract, per multiple reports. The relief pitcher has a non-roster invitation to spring training, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Jacques agency, Gaeta Sports Management, also announced the deal on Instagram.

Jacques pitched in the majors in each of the last two seasons for the Red Sox and Diamondbacks, and in 2024 split time between both teams, totaling three games this year. He has a 5.46 ERA and 4.90 FIP in 25 games and 29⅔ innings to date with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks.

So far in the majors, Jacques has primarily used his two-seam fastball, throwing the pitch 63.4 percent of the time, along with his sweeper 34 percent of the time.

Over the last two seasons between the majors and minors had a 21.6-percent strikeout-minus-walk rate against left-handed batters, compared to 4.2-percent against right-handers.

Jacques, who turns 30 in March, was drafted by the Pirates in the 33rd round in 2018, and made his way through waiver claims to the Red Sox in December 2022 and then the D-backs this April. The left-hander was designated for assignment in July and remained the rest of the season in Triple-A Reno before electing free agency in November.

Should Jacques make his way to the 40-man roster, he has one option year remaining after using options in 2023 and 2024.
