In recent months, a mysterious star has created a firestorm of media speculation. In October, news headlines around the world suggested that the star might be surrounded by a so-called alien megastructure. The nature of the mystery is the seemingly impossibly rapid dimming of the star — impossible under standard stellar theories. One investigator states of the star’s sudden changes: “What was unusual about that was the depth of the light dips, up to 20% decrease in light, and the timescales (of light variation) — a week to a couple of months.” What is the relevance of this discovery for the electric universe theory of stars?
In this episode of Space News, Donald Scott reflects on stellar evolution in an Electric Universe, a companion Space News to “Quasars in an Electric Universe“.
