New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson showed his class after donating $100,000 to the New Year's Day truck attack victims.

The NBA ace, 24, has shown his support for New Orleans after fourteen people were killed and more than two dozen were injured when a driver crashed a pickup truck into crowds on Bourbon Street. "As a father, son, and someone who loves this community, this hit me hard," Williamson said. "This isn't just about money -- but standing together and making sure no one feels alone."

Williamson wasn't the only New Orleans-based sports star to donate a large sum to a victims' fund. Saints star Cam Jordan has put up $25,000. The fund was launched at the request of the City's mayor, LaToya Cantrell, and community leaders, and the money will assist the families affected.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a former U.S. Army veteran, is the suspect named responsible for the Islamic State-inspired attack. Jabbar was shot dead by law enforcement at the scene of the attack after exchanging gunfire.

Among the deceased was former Princeton football player Tiger Bech, who was struck by the vehicle as it made its way down the French Quarter. Caesars Superdome employee Matthew Tenedorio also lost his life while celebrating the New Year.

Williamson, a former first-overall NBA Draft pick, has had a slow start to the 2024/25 season. He has played just six times for the Pelicans this season due to hamstring injuries. Williamson was listed on the Pelicans' injury report for Friday night's win over the Washington Wizards.

However, the two-time All-Star appears close to a return to action soon for New Orleans, having not played since the start of November. He will miss Sunday's trip to Washington, but the forward is starting to do non-contact drills and on-court shooting.

Without Williamson, New Orleans' record is 4-25, showing the obvious impact of his absence. The Pelicans have the worst record in the NBA thus far, with just six wins and 29 losses.

Off the court, Williamson has unveiled a new signature shoe. Despite his struggles in recent seasons, the Pelicans star remains one of the NBA's most marketable figures. In 2019, Williamson signed a five-year, $75 million deal with Jordan Brand.

At the time of the deal, it was the second-highest shoe deal in history. Williamson is now releasing a fourth edition, which was previewed in a recent practice session. Previous shoes cost $140, meaning the new edition could be in and around that ballpark.
