If you’re not having a European summer where you can pop into the French pharmacy to replenish your skin-care grails, no worries, because Amazon Prime Day has some of our favorites on sale. The No. 1 thing we’re stocking up on this Prime Day? Avène’s thermal-spring-water facial mist. A face mist is just water, right? Well, yes, but this one isn’t just water. Read on.
What Makes It So Special?
The water is unique because it’s calming and soothing to the skin because of its properties. This is a result of the Sainte-Odile spring, where the rainwater is collected and emerges about 50 years later from the ground. The water and its protective benefits have a rich history dating back hundreds of years and are purported to treat all types of skin concerns, from burns to inflamed skin.
How Does It Work?
Last summer, I experienced the water myself, frolicking in small town of Avène, France, where the brand’s thermal-spring water flows. I stayed at the hydrotherapy center, which has tailored and intensive treatments for the most severe skin concerns. There are dermatologists, hydrotherapists, and nurses, all of whom provide the utmost care to patients. Their time at the hydrotherapy center consists of a handful of treatments, from showers to body wraps to baths to underwater massages —all with the thermal spring water.
I got to experience some of the treatments myself, including the spray room (my favorite!). It consisted of sitting in a room for ten minutes with the thermal spring water aggressively shooting onto my skin. What is this magic water? I thought to myself.
While my skin doesn’t become inflamed often and wasn’t irritated when I got the treatment, I was still in the south of France in the middle of summer where redness and sun irritation was possible. Instead, my skin was soothed and unbelievably soft following the treatment. Following the trip, the thermal-spring-water face mist was one I turned to because I liked how it made my skin feel, especially after a super-sweaty workout or in the middle of a hot beach day on vacation.
Why Do People Love It?
All of Avène’s products are beloved, not just the face mist. Celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie Grainge are avid users of the Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream, the rich, protective cream that delivers intense hydration and restores the skin’s barrier; it works with even the most sensitive skin. It’s also one of the Cut Shop’s top picks for eczema creams.
Yes, Cut team members also can’t get enough of Avène. Senior shopping editor Bianca Nieves has been using the brand’s face mist since college. “Back then it was the only product that would soothe the eczema that would form all around my face. Now, my eczema is much better, but the Avène spray has stayed a constant in my routine,” she says. Shopping writer Chinea Rodriguez also turns to the face mist constantly. She dubs it “the most important step in my skin-care routine,” spraying it on before applying any hyaluronic-acid serums for an added boost of hydration.
Cut shop market editor Morgan Evans has struggled with eczema and sensitive skin her entire life. As early as high school, she remembers her dermatologist referring her to Avène’s soothing skin-recovery cream. “This has been my favorite lotion for years because it’s incredibly lightweight and doesn’t make you feel sticky or oily,” she says. “You just feel just hydrated and soft, and it helps any irritation or discomfort your skin may have.”
Where Do I Buy It?
During Prime Day, most of Avène’s beloved products are generously discounted. Whether you have sensitive skin or just are in need of products on your shelf that will have a calming effect, this is one of the best purchases you can make.
