Next time provide the girls with a stash of napkins please. ;)
Brenda
I have kept hens in the past and I was surprised they ate the banana...my labrador who heartily consumes everything food related [or not] won't touch banana....but she did bark at the fella's voice.
Amy O'H.
What is it about chickens? They just make me smile. The next time I have a chicken over I'll be sure it to offer it a banana.
Karen
Hah! ~ karen
mimiindublin
love the video, but really, really love the "assistant to Karen...Karen"!
I must use that term here!
Kel M
I can hardly wait for the next episode! I wonder if they will eat avocado....just a suggestion.
Rosecampion
I don't know for sure about chickens, but avocados are poisonous to many bird species.
Violet
Are they really? Wow, that's so weird. Avocados seem so benign and friendly.
It would be fun to make suggestions, but everything I can think of would probably be bad for them if they did eat it. Things like cotton candy, potato chips, hot dogs. Apparently my brain is stuck on the County Fair loop today. Better than the Jazz Club loop, I guess. I'm pretty sure cigarettes and martinis wouldn't go down well.
Laura Bee
Sigh....I love those chickens like they were my own.
I am concerned about the nail in board. Not for the chickens, they are smarter than people give them credit for. But, nail in foot hurts - I should know. Kinda freaky when you step on a board & it comes with you on the next step,
Rebecca
What is the legal status of your chickens? I may have missed a post since the "authorities" became involved. I live in the Chicago area and more communities are considering permitting chickens. Wondering what the current status is in your community.
Karen
Rebecca - Still in limbo. First they were going to consider it, then they decided Nope, why even consider it and shelved it all together. At that point there was an uproar and they've agreed to once again consider it. My thanks to the councillors who pushed for "considering" it. ~ karen!
Susan
Yes but where are the 4 in. heels? .....I love how you feed your birds the fruit on a stick! Chickens aren't as stupid as people give them credit for. Try cabbage! They LOVE THAT, but I think the fella should have gotten a complementary credit at least for the voice over.... No matter that he was extremely loud. But it was his banana so he should have gotten credit for the props at least. William White would never have let you get away with tharT? Fun video!:-)
Jo
What lovely girls,- and they're so fit !
"Will they eat it ?" - one of my favorites :o)
Violet
We did manage to find something they won't eat: banana peel. I was sure they'd go for that. My critters do, but they're bunnies and guinea pigs and rats, not chickens. One of my rabbits ate chicken once. I looked away for a second and she snatched a whole piece of chicken ravioli with gorgonzola sauce off my plate, ran with it, and snarfed it before I could stop her. I was horrified. She would also drink my coffee if I made the mistake of setting it down where she could get to it. I don't think she knew she was a rabbit.
Vivienne Grainger
You have terrific taste in music. Who was that masked band?
Karen
Vivienne - Well ... it was actually just one of the free selections of music for iMovie. I love it too! ~ karen
Barbie
I "meant" your. :) Your Uggs
Karen
Lol. After all the work of correcting yourself ... They're Bogs. :) Warmest boots I've ever worn. - k!
Ginny
I finally gave up trying to find some decent boots in the stores in my area. Thanks to your video I was reminded about Bogs. I just ordered a pair just like yours on sale for $62 bucks on Amazon.com! My fella is going to be upset that I have yet another pair of shoes but I don't have anything that will stand up to all the rain, ice and snow we get. I think it's a justifiable purchase.
Oh, I think your chickens are really cute and enjoy the "Will They Eat It?" video's. Just try not to wear stuff that I'm going to feel compelled to buy! ; P
Karen
Sorry Ginny. The Bogs are really, really great boots. I love my Hunter rubber boots because of how sleek they are but they don't do particularly well in the winter. At all. ~ karen
Ginny
Well, after shoveling foot after foot of snow last year and dealing with the slush and snow this year I figured it was about time for the appropriate boot. (Because my hiking boots just don't cut it.) The Hunter boots are cute but the Bog's are just what I needed. I thought you looked cute in them so maybe I can pull it off too. Thanks for giving me the little push I needed to finally buy them!
Barbie
AAAARRRGGGGGHHH! Of course they aren't UGGs! I just watched it again and I can clearly see they aren't! I hadn't notice the first part of it where you put the banana on ....I had only taken notice when you were walking and thought they looked so cute. I'm buying myself some of those! They look perfect for the slush and snow we get here. I have found that Uggs kind of suck when it comes to slush and snow. Thanks Karen for the correction.
Barbie
Love you uggs!
Carla Barnes
Finally! I've been watching and waiting for Episode 2, and it was just as good as I expected. Thanks for posting! Those are some GORGEOUS hens.
Jen
That was awesome..I don't know jack about chickens guess that's why I thought they wouldn't eat it. Very interesting can't wait for the next one :)
gloria
I feed the squirrels in my weeping willow tree with a similar nail-in-board dealie. Old bagels, half-eaten PB&J sandwich, fruit of all sorts. At first I worried one of them (the less nail-savvy rodents) would put an eye out, but nope. Been feeding them this way for years, everybody's still got two eyes. I don't think there's much difference in size when it comes to chicken and squirrel brains. But somehow, they know to avoid the nail in the banana.
gloria
How come you didn't give The Fella a credit for doing the voice-over (and rather loudly, I might add) for the opening line, Will They Eat It?
Karen
Gloria - Because I'm afraid he'll demand to get paid what I get paid to do voice over work. ~ karen
Jean
I like how they waited for you to peel the rest of the banana! smart chicks!
Marti
It's all fine and fun until somebody gets a nail in their talon. (Do chickens have "talons" or just bird feet? I don't know. Do you, Karen?)
You could rename this, "What WON'T they eat?" if you ever find something they turn up their little beaks at. Love this, but I do keep wondering when somebirdy is going to get a beak-full of nail. Why doesn't that concern you? You know something more that you aren't telling us?
Karen
Marti - What do I care if they get a beak full of nail? HAH. Just joking'. Um ... I've always given them their fruit and vegetables this way. Since they were fairly little. They seem bright enough (which is remarkable) to avoid puncturing their faces. Pus their beaks are made of ... well ... beak stuff. Bone or whatever. And I don't know what you'd call chicken feet. They have long, weird toes with long long talon like claws. I think they have toelons. ~ karen Oh! And there are def. things they won't eat. Patience. Were you expecting them to love a banana?
Marti
Beak stuff is the same stuff as your fingernails, fyi. (I do know a few things.)
I did think the banana was predictable. But I grew up on a farm with chickens... and apple trees. I might envy you, except my version of a coop would never have turned out that good.
Well, that and I like open-toed high heels.
