This week in my life I went on a fundraising hike through a golf course that was fit for a goat and I shot a bagpiper.
We're starting things off with a landscape shot of The Dundas Valley Golf Club, just a short walk from my house. I took part in a fundraising hike through the course. I'm not a golfer, but this course is so beautiful I'm thinking of joining just so I can eat fries on the patio whenever I want. I know it's difficult to take a bad photo of pretty landscape, but I love this photo. It was taken in the evening just after a day of thunderstorms. Actually I'm not sure if I love the photo or just the actual subject matter.
I shot a bagpiper on the walk too. I'm sure 100 other people took this exact photo on the walk. I was suspicious of anyone who *didn't* whip out their iPhone for this.
As we started the 5k walk, the bagpiper stood up on a green playing us on our way. I do not think the bagpiper is a regular feature of the golf course and I do not think he knew the trek we had before us or he would have mentioned something.
Just a little THIS IS YOUR DEATH MARCH or something, in between breaths.
UP and down and up and down and up and down. At one I handed Philip off to another walker to help drag her up hill.
I. AM. LOOKING. AT. HAMBURGERS.
Now just for fun I'd like you to guess what I was photographing here. What was my subject matter do you think? The one thing I wanted to draw your attention to.
As you can plainly see, this is a photograph of a bat. I was in a friend's backyard at dusk, had half of a beer in me and no Snow White control over a wild bat at all. There were swarms of them, all over the sky, swooping, diving, flying all hibbilty skibbilty. This is my best photo.
Don't bother contacting National Geographic for me, I've already sent a watermarked photo to them and expect to hear from them very soon.
The 12 Piece Puzzle
I did it in 34 seconds.
The 48 Piece Puzzle
4:44 was my time. That's absurdly long. I tried really hard.

Acchhh the pipes! Love them and I don’t have even a wee drop of Scottish blood in me. I took my dad to a Pipe and Drum tattoo in Hamilton years ago and we both enjoyed it immensely. He’s gone now but it’s a treasured memory for me. For some reason, I find them very emotional. Thanks for the gorgeous photo 😁

:33 for the 12 piece
2:46 for the 48 piece
I love bagpipes. I used to play the pipes many, many years ago.
My daughter had a piper play at her wedding. I thinks it’s either a “I love them” or “Stop pulling that cat’s tail” kind of instrument.

Karen, that 1st photo is superb! Perfect English countryside!
Once, years ago, when I was in Toronto in the afternoon to see the ballet, there was a young guy playing the bagpipes at the corner of Queen & University. Not sure if he was any good, but just for the bravery of doing so, he deserved to make some money. Hope he made enough that day.

Did Philip get the hamburger? Or ever get hamburgers? I am very torn between giving my cats what they want so they can fulfill their life goals and reach enlightenment or listening to the vet so they will live.

Number 1 - there is no such thing as an ugly bagpiper, but I believe your Man is the handsomest ever.
Number 2 - we had a bat in our house. He hid under the bathroom scales. He was darling, like a little brown dog (with leather wings). Now there are two in the rafter vents in our garage. So lucky! no skeeters

Be careful to examine the floors where they roost. We get lots of them trying to make a home inside and the attic floor will eventually collapse from guano build-up. It is really dangerous to have them inside! And costs a fortune to find a company that will remove them to another location safely once the colony gets big enough. I also love bats but have learned the hard way.

I think the first photo would make a great painting!
🌵Pamela of The Desert🌵;
I am not allowed on golf courses. Self imposed of course. I’ve never been formally asked to get the hell off the lawn. I hope that your epic journey across The Shire raised a handsome sum for your cause. Walking 18 holes is not easy. It’s more of a torture session than a friendly stroll and that’s exactly why some genius came up with golf cart rentals.
Your photos are superb. I have a soft spot in my dark heart for bagpipes, which reminds me, I may have to rewatch Tunes of Glory (starring Sir Alec Guinness) for the 12th time. Lip the poodle definitely deserved a burger for posing in such regal fashion with that rainbow leash adorned with gold lamp fringe.
Finally, Karen it’s so much fun getting your blog posts in my email! Thanks for keeping it real.

Bat that got away!

.35 and 4:38......... I'm not saying that it's a contest or sumthin'...... but it's a contest. lol Looks like a GREAT golf course over which to ride a cart. And the difference between a bagpipe and an onion is that folks cry when you cut up an onion.
