The first arrangement of Floret's original Zinnia blooms. Featuring Victorian Wedding, Unicorn Mix and Alpenglow. And a puzzle. Also I ate too much poutine.
Flower arranging season has officially arrived proven by the fact that I almost had enough zinnias to do a full flower arrangement.
Now that I'm looking at its sparse little self, I need to cut a couple of pink hydrangeas to tuck in it.
But for now, this is what I have and therefore it's what you have.
I had my first big cut of the zinnias this week and the moment was preserved in time with the mandatory Floret pose. Because that's what you do when you hold flowers now. It isn't even dorky. It's. What. You. Do.
All of the flowers in the pale lavender, pale pink and white tones are the variety Victorian Wedding. It was the earliest bloomer by 2 weeks.
The 2 peach toned zinnias (lower-right) are Alpenglow - the first two blooms came this week.
The bright pink and orange blooms are from the Unicorn Mix.
Once they really start blooming I'll do a layout of all the colours that each variety produces, but I really wanted to show you these right away. Because I love them. But I have to go cut some hydrangeas now.
Enjoy the weekend puzzle!
p.s. I just gave my niece The Cut Flower Garden book for her birthday, this set of snips and pruners, and a jar of floral preservative. It's a fun gift combo for any flower growing friends or family.

Apparently, my tablet doesn't like the word ZINNIA!!! It won't do it! So sorry!

Hey! To get long stems you have to make deep cuts when you cut the flowers. Instead of cutting just above the first set of lateral branches, which would only get you a 6-8" stem, cut above the second set of lateral branches (or leaf nodes). You cut off your 2 next blooms that way but it also encourages the zinnia to send out more flowers in the future. If you keep doing this you'll keep getting more flowers with longer stems. ~ karen!

GREAT!! THANKS! I'll definitely try that!
Btw, I had your kale salad at a party up in Canada this weekend.. It was AWESOME! She added craisins & shaved parm.

Back up the bus! What is the pouch you're wearing around your waist.

That is what Serena, the one who took the photo, refers to as my primordial pouch. It's a harvesting apron like this, but I didn't have it on right so it looks ... primordial. ~ karen!

I am OBSESSED with Floret and I’m kicking myself for not knowing about them in time for this year’s garden. I’m gonna have to start saving now for all the seeds I plan to order from them next year. It’s gonna be a big haul.
Karen
They are expensive! I look at it as investing in the kind of small business I want to be able to buy from in the future. They truly are beautiful colour combinations that all look good together. ~ karen!

Your arrangements are lovely! Always. I'm tickled to see your Zinnias & your Floret pose, of course. Darn it; I did not order Floret's Zinnias, phooey. Enjoy every minute Karen, with or without poutine.

So glad you didn't throw out the puzzle vase as it is perfection with these flowers! I also found that by shrinking the pieces of the puzzle down to little bits I could find pieces that matched the holes in the puzzle much more quickly. FUN morning. Thanks.

Absolutely gorgeous! I appreciate learning about Zinnias.

Lovely bouquet Karen. I don't think it needs anything else. Fun puzzle! Thanks.

Poutine. It needs poutine! 😉
Karen shoulda shared, then she wouldn't have a tummy ache. I'd certainly love to help! 😁
Purty flowers!
