E-ZRep Form TR-2000, Tax Information Access and Transaction Authorization information
If you're a tax professional, ask your client complete E-ZRep Form TR-2000, Tax Information Access and Transaction Authorization, to authorize you to access their account information and perform transactions on their behalf through a Tax Professional Online Services account.
Your client can authorize you to access a variety of online services, including Web Filing tax returns, making payments, and responding to department notices. See E-ZRep Form TR-2000.1, Online Services Access Information Page, for a complete list of online services your client can authorize you to access.
You'll have online access to your client’s confidential tax information, including:
- previously filed returns,
- outstanding tax liabilities,
- prior and pending payments, and
- electronic copies of notices we send to your client.
You'll be able to speak to a Tax Department representative about your client’s confidential tax information if it's available through your Tax Professional Online Services account.
Note: Your client cannot limit your authority to specific tax filing periods. For example, if your client authorizes you to perform sales tax transactions on their behalf, then you will have access to their sales tax information for all filing periods.
Adding a client to your account
- Have your client complete and sign E-ZRep Form TR-2000.
- Do not mail the form to the Tax Department.
- You must keep a copy of the authorization form in your records for the duration of the authorization plus three years; you may need to make a copy available to the Tax Department upon request.
- You will use the completed form to select the services you are authorized to access on your client's behalf and the expiration date of your access.
- Log in to your Tax Professional Online Services account or create one.
- Select Add Client from your Client Summary to begin adding a new client.
- Enter your client's taxpayer ID number and select a verification option.
- Refer to the client verification sections, below, to help you gather the information necessary to add clients to your Tax Professional Online Services account.
- Use the completed E-ZRep Form TR-2000 to select the services your client authorized you to access and enter an expiration date for your access (if your client entered one).
- You will have immediate access to the services your client authorized you to perform.
- To perform work for your client, select the client's name from the list of clients displayed on your Client Summary.
Business client verification
To protect your client's tax information, you must verify one of the following:
- filing information from one of your client's New York State corporation, sales, or withholding tax returns filed in the past 12 months (See Business verification for instructions on where to find the amounts on your client's return.)
- the ten-digit assessment ID number from your client's New York State tax bill (open or closed)
- the five-digit PIN from a letter your client received from the Tax Department
- confirmation that your client has not filed a New York State corporation, sales, or withholding tax return in the past 12 months
Individual client verification
To protect your client's tax information, you must verify one of the following:
- the federal adjusted gross income (FAGI) from Line 19 of one of your client's New York State income tax returns (Form IT-201 or IT-203) filed for one of the past five years
- the ten-digit assessment ID number from your client's New York State tax bill (open or closed)
- the five-digit PIN from a letter your client received from the Tax Department
- confirmation that your client has not filed a New York State income tax return for any of the past five years
Fiduciary client verification
To protect your client's tax information, you must verify the total income from Line A of one of your client's New York State fiduciary income tax returns (Form IT-205) filed for one of the past five years. If your client has not filed a fiduciary income tax return for one of the past five years, you cannot add them as a client to your Tax Professional Online Services account.
