Goldfish are a South African electronica and dance group, formed in Cape Town. They are comprised of Dominic Peters and David Poole, and are known for their versatility and penchant for experimentation.
What sets Goldfish apart from their contemporaries, especially in the Western world, is the fact that they hail from South Africa and make an effort to incorporate local influences into their work. Their own brand of dance music is flecked with nods to African styles and jazz, too, and has seen them shake up the dance world since they formed in the early noughties. Theyâve supported a slew of genuine luminaries of the genre on tour, including Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Faithless, Mr. Scruff, Paul van Dyk and Pete Tong.
Their experimental stage show sees Peters and Poole poised behind the decks, as is the usual fashion at the huge dance festivals they frequent, but also play traditional African instruments onstage, too - the result is something genuinely unusual, and theyâve amassed massive crowds at events like Ultra and Tomorrowland accordingly. They usually take a number of singers on the road with them, too; the most common fixture on their tours has been Sakhile Moleshe, but Poole himself has also taken on vocal duties alongside the likes of Max Vidima, Monique Hellenberg and Hlulani Hlangwane. Their output in the studio has been prodigious, too, with six albums in eight years between 2006 and 2013.

Between the two of these musical geniuses, Dominic Peters and David Poole they makes such a large sound, which is essentially dance music containing parts of jazz and African Music, playing double bass, saxophone, keyboard, flute, synthesizers, vocals. I have got to say; this might be one of the best dance acts Iâve ever seen. Their vocals and virtuosity, married with the fun that these guys have on stage making such amazing music is just mind-blowing. It is so fun to be a part of this huge party atmosphere, with everyone around me who is going absolutely nuts, jumping up and down, dancing and singing along. Itâs fantastic when they bring âEmily Bruceâ up on stage to sing one of their most well known songs, âThis is How it Goesâ. The Ooooâs are whipping this audience into absolute hysteria. âWashing Over Meâ is the song that features Marcel Veenendaal, which is accompanied by the most amazing funk bass line that youâve ever heard on a double bass. You have to go and see this band.
Incredible concert. The tickets were very affordable, and it was a great performance. I was surprised to find out the Goldfish is not very well known in the US. Such a unique type of music, electronic with a jazz twist, and they are incredible performers. I ended up buying 8 tickets and got my friends to go with me, most of whom had never heard of Goldfish before. After last night, they now all love Goldfish. There is not one person that I have introduced Goldfish to that hasn't loved them.
So I highly recommend going to a Goldfish concert if you have the chance. Just listen to a few of their top songs, I have a feeling you will realize why a Goldfish concert would be so fun. Be ready to dance though, you may leave the concert venue a little sweaty...
Once again, Goldfish absolutely killed it. This is my 3rd time seeing them (and 2nd time on a boat), and they are always fantastic. They are such an electric (heh) group that makes you just want to jump and dance. I never really got into them until I saw them live the first time (honestly, never really gave em a chance), and now I'm borderline obsessed. If you're on the fence, then just go, you won't regret it.
Unbelievable show they put on. People who have never seen Goldfish live expect it to be similar to seeing other DJs live, but it is absolutely not. Constantly switching between sax, flute, double bass, keyboard, makes the show super unique. Very high energy, get the crowd into it, would recommend a Goldfish concert to anyone who is a fan of live music.
This concert was absolutely amazing. Goldfish was fun and kept the audience entertained-- and the live instruments were incredible! Such a dance-y concert and it was a blast. Not only was Goldfish mindblowing and a fantastic time, the openers were wonderful as well.
Money (and the trip to Chicago!) very well spent! This venue was really cool.
Goldfish was amazing and the crowd was dancing like I've never seen a crowd dance before, some guys completely drenched in sweat and had some amazing footwork. Goldfish had perfectly timed steam blasts throughout the night.
So much fun! They did an amazing show, super funky, and really had the audience involved. I would definitely see them again the next time they are in town. If you want to get down, this is your band!
Absolutely brilliant night! Goldfish is so unique and has a sound of their own. I loved the saxophone, keyboards, bass and guest vocals, all adding to the live experience. Top class act!
They were boring and all over the place musically. I was looking forward to a solid swing house show and was completely disappointed. Their shows no longer have the energy they use to.
Overall bad
Not the same energy
Watching it on youtube is better than what i heard yesterday.
In Brasil it was waaaay better then in San Diego
Not fun at all
