Biography

  • With a reputation as one of the best guitarists in the world, playing with Black Sabbath Alumnus, Ozzy Osbourne just wasn’t enough for him. Then came some occasional acting, and forming a chart topping heavy metal band Black Label Society.

When Zakk Wylde formed the band after his long run being Ozzy Osbourne’s right hand man, he formed a southern rock band called Pride & Glory… and then Osbourne decided that he wanted to record another album, so he did, in the form of an album called “Ozzmosis”. It was around this time that Wylde was also offered not only the “Ozzmosis” tour with Osbourne but also a slot in the line up of Guns N’ Roses tour in 1995. As neither of those projects materialised, Wylde decided to finally record his solo acoustic album entitled “Book of Shadows” which unfortunately didn’t achieve the commercial success he had hoped.

Out of this phase only came good things when Wylde teamed up with drummer Phil Ondich and formed Black Label Society. It was this then side project that became Zakk Wyldes commercially successful freight train of a band releasing nine studio albums to date, with their two most recent releases, “Order of the Black” released on August 10th 2010 made it to number 4 in the US charts and “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” released on April 8th 2014 went to number 5 in the US charts, securing Black Label Society’s place in the mainstream.

Live reviews

  • I love Disney World. I know that's a strange way to start a discussion about a heavy metal band, such as Black Label Society, but the reason I mention it is because getting to see them at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney this past vacation truly made my trip even more special than it normally would have.

My wife, knowing my love for the band and for House of Blues, managed to get us a reservation and surprise me with their performance on our anniversary trip there this past year, and it truly was an incredible experience.

The crowd wasn't the greatest crowd at this venue, but I think that had more to do with not knowing the band, as opposed to not appreciating them, because Black Label Society but on a great show, and Zakk's vocals were great. Dario Lorina's guitar riffs were also quite hot, and really added a lot to the performance, in my opinion.

While it was sort of strange attending a Black Label Society concert where the audience was calmer than I'd expected to see, having been to several Black Label Society concerts, I think that this performance still held up to my expectations for the band, and I know my wife and I had a great time.

  • The concert was as bad ass as I expected it to be. I had always wanted to see Mr. Zakk Wylde playing live. Since I grew up in the 80s in Colombia (South America), the chances of this happening where = 0. Living in Germany, the chance was somehow never there to see him together with "The Boss", Ozzy Osbourne. And now, finally, after 18 years of wait, I could finally see one of the most remarkable "Guitar Heroes" performing live.

He delivered what could be expected of a Monster of Rock that had hisgh breakthrough when he was 19 years old, accepted to play with Mr. Ozzy Osbourne: excellent show, very accurate and passionate guitar performance, humor and lot's of energy.

The only thing I found a bit boring, was his 10min. Guitar Solo, but hey! at this stage, Mr. Zakk can play whatever he wants without thinking twice.

  • For starters I am a huge Zakk fan and fan BLS. I find is southern ballad style blended with ripping guitar is a strong point. My favorite DVD of 2014 was the UnBlackened. So when I heard of this tour I had to go. The venue was great. But I would have to say the show was a disappointment. It was far too loud. The songs were muffled. Many times it took the chorus to know what song it was. The opener was Wino. He just had an acoustic and one small portable amp. And it was also too loud. I have been to 100's of concerts. The great ones are at the perfect volume. Loud but clear. This wasn't.

  • They killed it. Awesome show! Unfortunately, the acoustics at Marathon Music Works in Nashville are not the best, so at times it was a little hard to discern notes and separate instruments/vocals, etc., but that was in no way the band or their team's fault. They played a really long set with a great mix from old to new, and naturally Zakk lit up the fretboard for a solid 20 minutes, during which he stepped into the crowd to show us how it's done, playing behind his head and with his teeth and not stopping shredding the entire time. Definitely worth the money if you're a BID fan.

  • There is only one guy who thinks stopping playing inbetween songs and sets is for p***ies - Zakk Wylde. Bloody hell. Glad I had ear plugs! But what a brilliant shredfest! From playing old classics such as Bleed For Me, Blessed Hellride and Suicide Messiah over a great tribute In This River for the late Dimebag Darrell to the new tunes such as Angel Of Mercy, this was a rock/metalfest through and through. Crobot - the first support - were great too and I'll definitely check them out.

  • What an amazing show. Zakk and the Guys have so much energy, they always bring such an amazing night of fun, music that just ROCKS your always smiling! The Riverside Municipal auditorium is also such a cool venue to catch a show at too! When Dario and Zakk were in a Guitar dual up on the balconies while the Fabulous Fabb tore up the stage on the drums was just out there! Looking forward to seeing this again!

  • Great show - energy was high and the atmosphere was amazing. Played a good mix of songs from different albums. Really appreciated the fans I felt. Venue definitely over-sold on tickets but the crowd were all friendly and great atmosphere between fans also. Zack's solo into the crowd was my highlight. Support were an Irish metal band from Galway who were great too.

  • Great concert! Great venue! Great music! Great crowd! 4th time I've seen BLS but first time at this venue. Zakk Wylde never disappoints. Loved it and can't wait to see them next time they tour. The El Rey was great. Not a bad "seat" anywhere. Not just watching a concert but being part of a shared experience. Amazing.

  • Great, though, the sound quality in Forum Palace is total mess. Something that is not acceptable. I went there only because there was no other choice. The bands were great (except Black Tusk but that may be due to my personal preferences). But the sound quality in Forum Palace is nowhere near acceptable.

  • The show was phenomenal. Zakk shredded a bunch which was awesome and did great crowd interactions and even went into the crowd and shredded. The only way to experience this concert is to see with your own eyes hope you see Zakk live because it’s worth every penny and you’ll be glad you went.
