Diana Krall was born 16 November 1964 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. She is a jazz pianist with over 15 million records sold worldwide.
Diana Krall learned to play piano at the tender age of four. She developed a taste for jazz in her early teens, playing in a Canadian jazz group for restaurants in Nanaimo. Jazz musician Don Thompson was her teacher while in Toronto. At age seventeen, Krall won a scholarship to move to Boston to pursue her passion at the Berklee College of Music.
While in the U.S. Krall produced her first album âStepping Outâ with Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton in 1993. Her fame continued to grow with her second album âOnly Trust Your Heartâ in 1995 and âAll For You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trioâ in 1996 which was nominated for a Grammy.
Diana Krall became a household name in the jazz music industry and she collaborated with legends like Tony Bennett on a 20-city tour in 2000 and on Ray Charlesâ album âGenius Loves Companyâ in 2004. Also in 2004 Krall released âThe Girl In the Other Roomâ which charted in the UK and in Australia. She continued to be successful academically as well, earning an honorary PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria in 2003.
In all, Krall has released eight albums, which has won her five Grammy Awards and eight Juno Awards (the equivalent of the Canadian Grammys). She is happily married to British musician Elvis Costello. Krall is an advocate for multiple myeloma research, dedicating her spare time to helping fight the illness that both her mother and mentor Ray Brown battled during their lives. If you asked Diana Krall who her greatest influence in music was, she would say her former mentor and jazz pianist Jimmy Rowles.
Read moreDiana Krall is a Canadian jazz singer, pianist and songwriter who can really tickle those ivories. The ambiance of her concerts are mostly calm and relaxing. When she performs one can tell the fans are really listening because there is no coughing, talking or other noise other than the great applause she receive at the end of her songs. Great concerts to go to with that special someone.
She got her start in 1990 and has sold over 6 million albums. She is always dressed to the nines with her backup musicians playing guitar or bass dressed in suits and ties. It is nice to see well dressed musicians for a change. The stage is usually dark with lights shone on Krall to make her appearance extraordinary. She would also be great to see in jazz clubs, where you could enjoy seeing her play and have a drink to really calm those nerves. It would be a very romantic date.
In 2000 she performed in 20 cities with one of the most fantastic performers of all time, Tony Bennett. What a concert that would have been to see. Krall seems to always be smiling and seems to love performing. This is what makes her so great to no just listen to but also watch her personality come out live on stage.
Diana Krall, the talented Candian jazz pianist and singer is one of the country's most celebrated exports. Having been awarded the order of Canada, she has international reputation as a singer and a personality. She is an incredibly interesting artist to watch perform live as it feels as though she has a personal connection with both her piano and the songs in which she plays.
The emotive performances of 'Everything's Made For Love' really resonate with the audience and you feel every tender note being considered and delivered. A more upbeat rendition of 'Get Out and Get Under the Moon' allows Diana opportunity to jam alongside her wonderful accompanying jazz musicians who clearly have as much love for the genre as she does.
The audience is enthused throughout due to the obvious amounts of effort Krall is displaying in her performance. She performs an incredibly reworked cover of Green Day's 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' which receives a rapturous applause only outdone by the standing ovation she receives for the brilliant finale of 'I'm A Little Mixed Up'.
Namaste every one!
The concert was impressive to claim's of sale's & service's! There was a receptive audience to a interexchange of a movement at the venue of realisation's! There were some song's performed of DIANA KRALL of different album's than the main event agenda & current album of reference that I realised that were of a resonating sale of expecting of a prompt! DIANA KRALL presented acknowledgement's & credit's several time's during the event related to literal name's of the inaddition member's of the performance that was gesterful! It rained some time through the concert & after the concert of different harmonisations! It was fun & there are a list of colloquialism's that reflect & are sale's of difference's for the respective claim's of movement that exist as sale's, etcetera!
Take care all!

Since I have virtually all the music that Diana Krall has ever recorded, you must know that any review from me is definitely biased. Last night's show (7/26/17) at Edgefield Lodge in Troutdale OR found Diana and her very "tight" band in top form. On the 4th song just after Anthony Wilson was leading Diana into a lovely song a train whistle timed perfectly led Diana to directly go into "Take The A Train'. The next interruption on the very next song was by an overhead plane which led to another change. When you have musicians as talented as Diana Krall and her cadre, you witness a concert that can never be duplicated in a recording. A wonderful setting, fantastic artists and a 3-number encore ending with "Moonglow" as the moon was rising...who could ask for more?
I saw DK last night in Nashville with a NSO. I love DK and have for many years but I must say that last night's show left me a little empty. The orchestra was superfluous and the solos were too many and too long. Her band was ok, though the true star of the show was the fiddler, Stuart Duncan, who was fantastic. DK seemed a little disengaged and sort of going paint-by-numbers. Less swing and more string would have been nice. I was sitting directly behind the orchestra and saw their charts. They had many songs cued up that she didn't play and the entire brass section sat through the entire show without playing a note. She played a one-song encore and when she walked offstage the audience was like huh? The whole thing was a bit odd and disappointing.
She was amazing and funny! Her voice was like velvet and the entire ensemble was wonderful!
Two of my fave moments were:
- When she was starting "Isn't it Romantic" and a train started coming by blowing it's horn and she immediately switched songs and started singing "Take the A Train" but she switched up the lyrics to mention Portland.
- The next time she started singing "Isn't it Romantic", a plane came over and she gave a cute little huff and immediately transitioned to sing "Come Fly with Me"
When she was finally able to sing "Isn't it Romantic", it was well worth the wait. It was a gorgeous night, delicious voice, and amazing talent on keys, bass, drums, electric guitar, and violin. :-D
First of all, of course, the music. It was more jazzy, more technical, less melodic than in the past. Depending on your taste, it was either an improvement, or a mild disappointment.
It seemed to me that the presence of a relatively large orchestra was superficial. It participated in only a few songs, and even when it did, it seemed unnecessary to me. In other words, it didn't add much.
Diana Krall seemed less relaxed than at her previous concerts. She didn't tell stories or chat with the audience. She started a couple of times, in near-whisper, but cut herself short. That was disappointing. I used to enjoy her close contact with her fans.
The Diana Krall concert July 3 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris was better than wonderful! Diana sang and played in her best form and was accompanied by four world-class musicians. Love the Olympia! Had a seat, dead center, in the second row of the mezzanine. I don't think there could've been a better seat in the house. If you are a Diana Krall fan, don't miss her 2019 world tour!
Great concert.
I had already seen her when she first came to Portugal some years ago. This time the show was a little more jazzy. I personally like more her interpretation of standards in a not so jazzy manner. But still a delight to watch. The rest of the band was amazing!
Great deep voice, the music was also good, but that voice was the obvious highlight.
I'd have prefered to be in a smaller-cozier place, but that might be very rare, as she is obviously good and a lot of people want to listen to her.
GREAT CONCERT!
