Biography

  • Hailing from Rogers, Arkansas, US, Joe Nichols (born November 26th, 1976) is an American country music artist playing in a neo-traditional style with a discerning baritone reminiscent of Don Williams.

Having grown up watching his father play bass in a local country band, Nichols was always around country music. After doing odd-jobs and working as a mechanic, Nichols met producer Randy Edwards, who encouraged Nichols to develop his songwriting skills.

At 19, he had signed with Intersound Records, releasing his self-titled first album in 1996. The album did not sell particularly well and Nichols was dropped from the label, moving to Giant Records before again leaving their roster. However, Nichols was soon to achieve better results, after singing to Universal South Records (Show Dog- Universal Music) in 1999.

In 2002, his second album, "Man With Memory" finally brought Nichols some success, with his lead single "The Impossible" reaching number three on the Billboard Hot County Songs Chart, being declared the tenth most-played country song of 2003 and certified Platinum. This release earned Nichols several awards, including three Grammy Award nominations and an award for Top new Male Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music. The second single, "Brokenheartsville," brought Nichols his first number one on the Billboard country charts, with two further singles entering the top 20.

Nichols proceeded to build on his success with his next three albums "Revelation" (2004), "III" (2005) and "Real Things" (2007), with hit singles "Tequila avers Her Clothes Fall Off," "What's a Guy Gotta Do" and "It Ain't No Crime," all breaking into the top 20 of the country charts.

Nichols' third number one single was "Gimme That Girl," released in 2010 on the album, "Old Things New." WIth his 2012 album, "Crickets," a more pop-orientated, upbeat affair, Nichols was again on top form, achieving two number one singles from the album."Sunny and 75" and "Yeah" both topped the country charts.

Live reviews

  • Joe Nichols is not a show to be missed! Between his great energy and high quality of his many country singles, the show offers a great experience for any country fan.

Nichols has been writing and playing country for almost two decades, but not all of his fans know that his success was harder earned than most. His first album was not very successful and after jumping around labels for several years he finally had a successful album with a top 40 single. After that, he has been a Billboard top country single machine, but it is apparent he has an appreciation for being able to do what he loves on stage. He spent the show laughing with the audience and with his band; the guy even sang his own country rendition of “I Like Big Butts and I Cannot Lie” – the audience loved it! Nichols’ maintained some musical integrity after trying his hand in Sir Mix-a-Lot’s old single, playing his many hits (all of which the audience sang along to) in a really well tailored way. Some artists prefer to just go up and make some noise and see what happens, but Joe Nichols’ and his band take a lot of care in the way the sound – keeping the quality just as high as in his studio albums.

At a Joe Nichols concert you are guaranteed to hear some great country music played extremely well. And you’re guaranteed to have a lot of fun, as I’m sure there wasn’t a single face at the show without a smile on their face and a beer in their hand.

  • Having not achieved the same dizzying commercial success of some of his peers, Joe Nichols has still done incredibly well in the US country charts whilst managing to maintain a likeable down to earth mentality. Since the beginning of his career nearly two decades ago he has amassed a loyal, large following who continue to sell out his tours in record numbers.

With an expert attainment of the country genre and a slick supportive band, Nichols goes about creating a setlist to appeal to all members of the audience which of course features hits such as 'Size Matters (Someday)' and 'The Impossible'. The audience remains responsive throughout the whole concert due to Joe's warm demeanour and likeable personality. He builds a rapport almost instantly and addresses the crowd as if he was chatting to an old friend.

Although modest, he is clearly confident in his abilities as he rapidly strums the introduction to 'Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off' to the sound of huge cheers. The crowd supports him during the chorus and form a thousand strong choir as a thank you of sorts for such a wonderful evening of live music.

  • The concert was nice although it was VERY hot outside. Joe was nice, funny and cheerful. Didn’t play very long. I am a VIP fan club member as well as my daughter.we paid $30 for that, each. Then I bought 2 GA tickets but then found out about VIP tables. So I spent another $500 on that. After the show, we as VIP fan members got to meet Joe first. He was just “blah”. Didn’t interact with either of us like “what’s ur name” or “where ya from”. No questions or talking at all. Not a very personal experience. I felt rushed. I felt like cattle being herded through a line. VERY RUSH. I understand Joe was probably tired and hot but so were we. We were told VIP Fan Members get a picture and an autograph and a few moments with Joe. We did not get those “few” moments. This was my first time meeting Joe and I don’t think I will continue my membership with the fan club nor attend another of his shows. For over $500, it was not quality “fan” VIP treatment as promised.

  • Had a fantastic time at the show, it was held at the spur they did a great job on set up and accommodating their vendors as well as their customers. The sound was perfect for both bands. I was disappointed that they had ran out of merchandise at their last two shows so Fairbanks missed out. I would think they would dedicate their inventory per city versus bring what they could to Alaska and sell it all before they even get to us.

Also, a group of us for bought VIP tickets. So we were able to meet Joe after the show. I have now renamed it from meet and greet to meet and shove. You are lined up and ran through fast there was nothing personable about it. Chances are I won’t do that again. Overall I give it an 8 out of 10.

  • Joe Nichols was amazing after all these years he kept it true Blackwood country. He played 3 songs and thanked Merle Haggard for leading the path and for all those continue to follow. Joe played his older music and "Undone", from his new cd. love going to concerts that has artist who thank the lord for their blessings and keeping it country. The younger generation loves the hip hop rap added which nothing wrong with it, that's what they are hearing and being brought up with, for me it's Hank, George Jones, George Strai, Alan Jackson, Mark Chesnutt , Phil Vassar & Reba. Thanks to Alameda County for bringing Joe Nichols to the county fair this year.

    sincerely,

    Debbie
