Infected Mushroom is an electronic based duo from Israel comprised of producers Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani. Their sound is highly eclectic, touching on subgenres such as glitch, electro house, industrial, and trance. They are one of the biggest selling artist in Israel and have likewise reached success internationally.
Both members had a similar musical upbringing, undertaking classical piano at the start of their music endeavors. Eisen reoriented his focus to electronic music experimenting with various compositional software and eventually entered into the DJ scene. Duvdevani also departed from classical music; however, he shifted his attention towards punk rock and heavy metal, later joining Israeli punk band Enzyme to play keyboards.
Eisen went through multiple manifestations of bedroom elctro-trance projects before meeting Duvdevani who had just retired his plan to pursue a career as a metal musician in India. The two did not start playing together until 1996 and initially performed and released material under the name Shidapu & Duvdev. They eventually adopted the moniker Infected Mushroom and issued their studio debut âThe Gatheringâ to a world wide audience in 1999. The album featured samples ranging from movies (âIndependence Dayâ, âBatman & Robinâ, âContactâ etc...), to music (Primusâ âTommy the Catâ) and even video games (Grand Theft Auto). The album sported an overall dark atmospheric tone and is largely recognized as one of the first recordings to introduce Israeli psytrance to the mainstream.
âClassical Mushroomâ came out in 2000 and was seen as a step forward for the band. It did not necessarily offer any dramatic stylistic changes, but rather refined the sound they had been working on in the past. However their follow up album âB.P. Empireâ did showcase a revamping of style, particularly on the track âDancing With Kadafiâ, which placed emphasis on classical piano music as well as middle-eastern melodic structure. Infected Mushroomâs 4th album: âConverting Vegetariansâ continued with the trend of experimentation. It was a double disc album with one disc dedicated to their recognizable trance induced sound and the other disc dedicated to new sounds like downtempo, electro-pop, and avant-garde.
Infected Mushroomsâ 2004 effort âIM The Supervisorâ was a commercial hit, selling more albums than any of their prior releases. It is an album often attributed for codifying the seamless fusion of psychedelic music with electronica. Also this year the band located to Los Angeles,California and by 2007 recruited 3 new members in the group: guitarists Thomas Cunningham and Erez Netz and percussionist Rogério Jardim.
In 2007 the group released their most elaborate and musically diverse album to date âVicious Deliciousâ. With the recruitment of the bandâs new members the sound became fuller and more complex, featuring Spanish lead guitar and hip-hop beats. The bandâs 7th album âLegend of the Black Shawarmaâ was released in 2009 and was followed by a three year tour. The band returned to the recording studio after their extensive tour and put out âArmy of Mushroomsâ in 2012.
Read moreInfected Mushroom is a psytrance/indie/electronica act from Israel. The duo combine eclectic musical sources, from acoustic guitars to synthesised bass to create complex high-octane psychedelic music. Their gigs are hence adrenalin-fuelled experiences.
This April Infected Mushroom played âThe Showboxâ in Seattle. The packed venue was darkened to allow for the bandâs explosive use of lighting to work to its full effect. The gig was high energy throughout, and after an exhausting evening of jumping around in the packed Showbox, itâs fair to say that weâd worked up a sweat!
Infected Mushroom drew largely from their latest album, âArmy of Mushrooms.â The funky dubstep beats of âNation of Wussesâ left no one standing still. Though the band were also able to slow the crowd down, calming the atmosphere with the more laid-back intro and slower lyrical overtones to âWanted-To.â Infected Mushroom, of course, did not neglect their older, and biggest, hits. They soon used âBecoming Insaneâ to ramp up the energy again. The crowd became suitably manic as the familiar intro burst into the arena. Throughout, Duvdevani encouraged his audience, bouncing unstoppably about the stage, just daring us to keep up with him.
My ears were still ringing weeks after this gig. Definitely worth a try, whether youâre a diehard Infected Mushroom fan or fancy an adrenalin-fuelled musical experiment.
If you want to experience live music that is anything but ordinary, Infected Mushroom come highly recommended. The Israeli psytrance/electronica duo have been making waves globally on the strength of their mind bending live show. Combining alt-dance music, bizarre visuals and a barrage of instruments the group goes about creating an experience that must be seen to be believed.
The stage set up completely envelopes the crowd in an eerie fluorescent before the pair step out and get to work recreating their crazy sounds. The audience is receptive throughout, if not slightly confused during spanning instrumental introductions to the likes of 'Cities of the Future'. A reworked cover of 'The Pretender' by Foo Fighters turns rock to dance and demonstrates the band's skill as sound innovators.
By the time they begin to wind up the show with 'I'm A Survivor' the crowd has completely surrendered to their bizarre world and now hope to continue dancing within it well into the night. By the final psych tones of 'Heavyweight' the huge cheers are those of confident converts.

This was the first Infected Mushroom concert for me. I play classical music and have been impressed with these four men from the get go. Duvdev looked so happy during this performance. He smiled so much; I think he is infectious! Erez is the best keyboardist and pianist I have ever had the pleasure to hear. I read and write music so my appreciation and ear know the score with these artists! These four men rocked my world and I'm still high on Monday from being immersed in their songs. It was such an incredible performance that I was stunned. I will never forget this concert. There isn't any comparison for their brilliance and talent.
Thanks for the best show Infected Mushroom. I can't wait to hear your next album!
With much love and appreciation

I saw these guys for the first time (That I can actually remember. Whoops.) at Freaknight 2013. Regrettably, they were at the end of the night, so I was mega tired. But when they played Astrix On Mushrooms, I couldn't help but jam. Their show was INSANE. The amount of energy was phenomenal. I keep waiting for another DJ set in my general area. These guys are definitely worth seeing as a DJ set.
As a side note, I did see them perform live. But the crowd was so disgustingly Portand (Wannabe hippies, plenty of hipsters and plenty of druggies), that I couldn't get into it. Seeing them at a Trance/EDM show was a superior experience, by a long shot. Nothing at all against them, just the experience.
Maybe it's common knowledge amongst those who frequent EDM shows, but this started WAY later than the advertised time. I was really looking forward to seeing this, and bought my tickets months ahead of time for the 9PM show.
Got to the venue (45 minutes on public transit) and found it odd that after two hours, IM still hadn't taken the stage. Checked Facebook to find a post from the band saying that they'd be on stage at 12:30. I hate being THAT guy, but I had shit to do in the morning, and transit stops running here early. I left the venue at 10:30, having wasted $35. I don't blame the band for going on late, but it would be great if they would advertise it properly.
I think I went into this show with the wrong expectations. It was more dubstep than psytrance. They did play some of their older songs at the end (aleit with dubsteppy interludes). I found myself increasingly frustrated with the way Amit demanded the audience's participation instead of earning it, and if we took a drink for each time he yelled "Seattle", we'd all be in the ER ten minutes into the show: every twenty seconds there was another variant on "Jump, Seattle!", "Seattle, I want to see your hands!", "Make some fucking noise, Seattle!!!"
I'm a big infected fan and never missed a NYC show from 2008!! This show SUCKED! Ther was more kids making a video with their phone then people dancing ! I miss the vibes infected used to have before dubstep was a thing , don't get me wrong Im totally into dubstep and the way it affected infected , but they let it change them TO MUCH and they don't sound anything like the self any more and that's maybe why you go to the infected show today and there's only new kids and non of the old fans .
The Ministry of Sound was heaving forInfected Mushroom"s final gig of the year. They are my wife's favorite dj's/band. Along with fans she was not disappointed. They went on a journey rely mixing it up..Starting with newer material from Nutmeg. playing deep bass, funky trance, dubstep, some tasty guitar breaks then finishing off with classics. Amit and Erez rely whipped the crowd up. A thoroughly enjoyable event. .
Iâm 64 years young .love infected... takes me on a journey every time, lots of places itâs my go to tunes whenever I want to travel. I travel lots on Harley and is my get invigorated music. Iâd love to see them in concert but Iâm afraid Iâd be out of place...music should have no barriers but it does. One day Iâll see them live
Infected Mushroom puts on an incredible show. Their skills are unmatched in terms of performance and I love that they play live instruments! I honestly never know if I would rather head bang or liquid dance when I listen to them. They cross genres and I could see them at any electronic or metal festival
