This year’s honorees are:

  • Bryan Bero – Football (Bishop Montgomery/University of Utah/Chicago Bears)
  • Alex Gray – Professional surfer
  • John Papadakis – Trani Award
  • Fred Roggin – Humanitarian Award
  • The Trani Majestic Family – Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Kim M. White – Triathlete

The event typically sells out and proceeds go to support local scholarships for the Boys and Girls Club of the Harbor Area, said Rick Pielago, president of the nonprofit LA Sportswalk Board of Directors.

A San Pedro tradition since 1978, the event honors men and women for sports excellence and includes honorary plaques placed in the sidewalks within downtown San Pedro’s historic shopping and dining district.

There will be limited viewing space for those who wish to watch the ceremony but cannot join the lunch on the fantail of the historic World War II ship berthed near 250 S. Harbor Blvd., San Pedro.

A reception will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the lunch and ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

Other goals of the program are to promote sports through local education and to expand the concept to take in the new waterfront area in San Pedro.

The first Sportswalk was held on Oct. 5, 1978, when downtown San Pedro was launching a new revitalization effort.

Some years have been skipped in the 45 years since then and this will be the first time the event is held since 2018 when the name officially changed to the Los Angeles Sportswalk of Fame recognizing athletes and sports celebrities of both regional and national significance.
