o Once the Cavite shipyard was subdued by means of a
stipulated pact, two American ships went ashore at
Corregidor Island on May 3, 1885, forcing the
Spaniards on the island to surrender.
o The Dewey Cannon, was taken as a prize of war to the
United States.

o It was the site of two costly sieges and pitched battles
—the first during the first months of 1942, and the
second in January 1945
o December 24, 1941 and February 19, 1942,
Corregidor was the temporary location for the
Government of the Philippines.
