Rizal's Childhood and Early Education

Rizal was born in 1861 and began his early education at age 9 under Mr. Justiniano Aquin Cruz. He continued studying under Master Lucas Padua in a public school in Calamba. By age 14, Rizal entered Ateneo de Manila and received his Bachelor of Arts degree at age 15, graduating with highest honors. In 1876, he began studying philosophy at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
