Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation
Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation
Penance and
Reconciliation
I, a faithless sinner,
renew and ratify today
in your hands,
O Immaculate Mother,
the vows of my Baptism.
I renounce forever Satan,
his pomps and works,
and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ,
the Incarnate Wisdom,
to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life,
and to be more faithful to him
than I have ever been before.
In the presence of all the heavenly court,
I choose you this day for my Mother and Mistress.
I deliver and consecrate to you, as your slave,
my body and soul,
my goods, both interior and exterior,
and even the value of all my good actions,
past, present, and future,
leaving to you the entire and full right of disposing of
me,
and all that belongs to me, without exception,
according to your good pleasure,
for the greater glory of God, in time and in eternity.
Amen.

Penance and
Reconciliation
FAITH
- has three dimensions that we need to understand.
- They are like legs in a tripod; take one away and the
whole thing will not stand. Likewise, each of these
three dimensions must be carefully understood and
must always be present.
FAITH
1. Revelation
2. Worship
3. Service
REVELATION
It is not a human invention or any man’s creation
It is a gift from God, freely given to man
REVELATION
How does God reveal Himself?
Faith begins at home. Therefore, God reveals Himself
through His instrument around us, starting with our
parents. It is the responsibility of every Christian
parent to show to the child the way to God by the
kind of life they live.
REVELATION

REVELATION
How does God reveal Himself?
It is important that through their parents and the
people around them, children will have a personal
encounter with God.
REVELATION
What do we learn from our Faith?
1. It was God who created us, out of the abundance of
His love. He desired us – you and me -. Therefore, we
are desirable.
REVELATION
What do we learn from our Faith?
2. Despite our sinfulness, Jesus offered himself on the
cross and redeemed us.
Difference between to save and to redeem?
REVELATION
What do we learn from our Faith?
3. God calls us into a Relationship with Him.
REVELATION
Relationship with God
In Genesis chapter 1, we read how God created the
world. How did God create the world?
REVELATION
Relationship with God
In Genesis chapter 2, we read a different story on how
God created man and woman.
Why are man and woman able to
speak/communicate?
Why are they naked?
REVELATION
The Reality of Sin
It is a rejection of the will of God; of God himself
It hurts relationships: God, community, person
It blocks the grace from entering our life
It attracts demons into our life
WORSHIP
Liturgical aspect of Faith
Our first step in responding God’s call
Our understanding of Faith as revelation moves us –
compels us – to respond with thankfulness and
worship.
It is our way of improving our relationship with God
WORSHIP
What are examples of worship?
Prayer
Reading the bible
Attending Mass
Receiving Holy Communion
Going to Confession
Rosary, Novena, devotional prayers, acts
Gestures
SERVICE
The most important dimension of Faith
Matthew 22:35-41
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels
with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will
be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one
from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the
goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his
left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you
who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the
kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty
and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and
you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in
prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see
you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to
drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or
needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or
in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one
of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for
me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you
who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and
his angels.
Jesus identifies Himself with our neighbor, especially
those wo are in need of our help.
