I. Standards, Competencies and Objectives
Performance Standard: The learner transfers learning by: resolving conflicts presented
in literary selections; using tools and mechanisms in locating
library resources; extracting information and noting details
from texts to write a précis, summary, or paraphrase;
distinguishing between and using literal and figurative
language and verbal and non-verbal cues; use phrases, clauses,
and sentences meaningfully and appropriately.
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of: Philippine literature
during the Period of Apprenticeship as a means of examining conflicts;
various purposeful listening and viewing strategies; difference
between literal and figurative language; ways to extract and condense
information based on library sources; verbal and non-verbal cues in
oral communication; and types of phrases, clauses, and sentences.
Learning Competency: Identify figures of speech that show comparison (simile
metaphor, allegory)
Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
Identify the type of analogy used in a sentence;
supply the best word to complete an analogy; and
use analogy to describe or make a point.

E. Abstraction
“An analogy is a comparison between two
things. It is used to describe or make a point
about something by examining its similarities
with another thing. The two things being (Students Listening)
compared may be very dissimilar but the
analogy forces the reader or the listener to
understand the connection between them”.
“Some of the common literary devices can be
used as examples of analogy. These include (Students Listening)
simile, metaphor and allegory”.
Types of Analogy
SIMILE – It is a comparison of two things
that are essentially different, using the words
like or as.
Examples:
She is as busy as a bee. (Students Listening)
My mother is sweet like sugar.
METAPHOR – It is a comparison that
describes a person or thing using words that
are not meant literally.
Examples:
Her children are her treasures.
Grandmother’s lap is a soft pillow.

ALLEGORY – It is an expression by which
the characters and events are symbols that
stand for ideas about human life or for a
political or historical situation.
Example:
My intelligent classmate is the
Einstein of the class. (Students Listening)
F. Application
“Since we’re done with our discussion let us
see if you truly understand our topic this
afternoon. This time, work with your
respective groups. Each will be given
different task. I will give you the materials
you need for this activity, Instructions are also
included in the materials that will be
distributed to each group. Each group must
choose two representatives to present your
work in front. You will be given five (5)
minutes to finish the task and another three
(3) minutes to present your collaborative
output.
