Freedom of a

Human Person
Presentation by Group 2
At the end of the lesson, the students
are expected to:
be able to define freedom and explain its significance in human life.
be able to distinguish the three kinds of freedom: physical, psychological, and
moral.
be able to identify and discuss the elements of freedom, particularly
voluntariness and responsibility.
be able to demonstrate how freedom is properly exercised through making
responsible choices and self-reflection.
be able to value the importance of respecting both their own freedom and the
freedom of others.
What is Freedom?
Freedom is the natural ability of a person to make choices and act
on them. It means we are not controlled by instincts or outside
forces, unlike animals. As human beings, we can think, reflect, and
decide how to act. This ability to choose freely and responsibly is
what sets us apart from other creatures. Freedom also allows us
to become the person we want to be by making our own decisions
and shaping our future.
Kinds of Freedom
Kinds of Freedom
1. Physical Freedom: is the ability of a person to move and act
without being restricted by external forces. It is the freedom to
do physical actions like walking, working, or helping others.
2. Psychological Freedom: is the ability to control your inner
emotions, desires, and impulses. It means you are free when you
are not controlled by anger, fear, or laziness.
3. Moral Freedom: is the power to choose what is right or wrong
according to your conscience. It’s about doing good even when
no one is watching.
Imagine that you were in this situation, what will be your honest
reaction?

Elements of Freedom
Elements of Freedom
1.) Voluntariness - refers to the ability of a person
to act on his/her own free will and self-
determination.

also means that even if he/she is not required

or called to take action.
What is Free Will?
Free will means being able to choose and decide
for yourself, without being fully controlled by
things like fate, destiny, or how your body works.
It’s the idea that you can pick between options
using your own thinking, wants, or beliefs even if
your surroundings or how you were raised affect
you.
What is Self-determnation?

is the ability and right to control your own life,

make your own choices, and set your own goals
without being forced or overly influenced by
others.
Elements of Freedom
2.) Responsibility - means doing what you are
supposed to do and being ready to face the
consequences of your choices.

responsibility can also have a positive and

negative meaning, and goes hand-in-hand with
voluntariness determining the morality of an
action.
Exercising our Freedom
The realization of Voluntariness and
Responsibility in the exercise of our freedom
gives our actions and experiences a whole new
meaning.
We can now reflect on our actions to better
understand them and guide us towards making
the best possible decision.
Self-reflection is vital in the proper exercise of
human freedom. As persons, we cannot allow
ourselves to be slaves to sudden emotions and
moods whenever we act.
Self-reflection aids you in exercising freedom by
helping you understand yourself, think about
your actions, and make responsible decisions
based on what is right.
Freedom is experienced through making choices.
Although human freedom gives us the ability to
think of countless decisions and possible actions,
we only get to choose to enact one possible
action or decision.
When we make a choice to do a particular action,
we can never go back and redo our actions and
make another choice.( Real-life is not a movie
where we can stop and rewind events and get a
“second chance” on the situation.)
Human freedom should be used wisely and with
respect for limits. We set limits to our own
freedom and learn to control our emotions,
thoughts, and actions depending on the situation.
Freedom should also be exercised with regard for
knowledge and truth. As rational beings, it is
natural for us to think before we act. We use our
freedom to act and aquire more knowledge, and
we use this knowledge in order to come up with
decisions.
The ability to aquire information and truthful
knowledge in a particular situation is very
important, since it aids us in making wise and
informed choices.
In exercising our freedom, we should respect and
protect not only our own freedom but also the
freedom of others. This view means that freedom
is a recognized and guaranteed right for all
humans.
Thank you
very much!
