Med- FLE 297: Methodist Social Principles
The Social Principle's major goal is to teach everyone how to be a
follower of Christ. We are all God's children, and the social principle is crucial
in educating everyone on how to live a life based on faith and trust in God.
We ought to uphold this principle with both our minds and our hearts.
The reason for this occurrence it involves the life and love of Christ, our
Savior, we ought to practice it. We would all be nothing without Him. Living a
life in accordance with social principles brings us one step closer to the kind
of people God wants us to be. Following and living out these social principles
requires us to do the same for our own lives.
The Social Principles serve as a reminder that, as followers of Christ,
we are called to be in relationship with others and engage the systems of the
world through concrete action. They also serve as a reminder that our faith is
not just an individualistic response to the gift of grace given in Jesus Christ.
The Social Principles recognize that children are complete human beings in
and of themselves. Children have a right to education, and governments and
parents are responsible for ensuring that they have access to a quality
education.
In addition to the rights to property as a gift from God, collective
bargaining, responsible consumption, and the abolition of economic and
social hardship, we think that it is everyone's responsibility to strive for the
glory of God, the good of others, and themselves. We commit ourselves to
maintaining world peace, upholding international law and justice, and
promoting individual freedom for all people.
