Definition of Discussion Text

The definition of discussion text is a medium used to record important matters relating to an issue or
problem in a scientific meeting. The discussion text itself usually contains opinions expressed by various
parties, from agreement to rejection As an activity that brings together scientific thoughts and opinions,
discussion texts have a formal nature. Therefore, discussion activities often discuss any issue or problem
and are carried out formally. The definition of discussion text itself is basically part of the development
of an argument about an issue or problem. So it is not surprising that the discussion will discuss issues or
problems that are currently being discussed in society. Most discussion activities also present two
experts in the same field or experts who have expertise related to the discussion.

Discussion Text Structure

1. Introduction (Issue)

An issue is an element in a discussion text that contains a description or phenomenon of the problem
that will be discussed in the discussion activity. For example, in this meeting, the issue that will be
discussed is the election of village administrators. In the issues in the discussion text, there are several
important points that must be considered, namely:

• There is a statement to limit the topics discussed

• Highlight different points of view to be discussed

there are problems that must be resolved through discussion. This is a series of arguments. In a
discussion text, the content or series of arguments is a structure related to statements and logical
reasons from various parties, which are used to support or reject an opinion regarding the problem
being discussed in the discussion. You also need to remember that the series of arguments in the
content of the discussion text must have at least two types of views, namely those for and against a
condition/event. Arguments when discussing are:

Contains the main idea or opinion, both pro and con, as well as the logical reasons underlying the
opinion, Conveyed in persuasive language.

In this case, each discussion participant is given the freedom to convey their arguments, as long as they
do not harm, hurt or threaten other participants.
3. Conclusions or suggestions

The conclusion in the discussion text is a recapitulation of the results, recommendations, or solutions to
the problems that have been discussed. Preferably, the results of the discussion should contain
recommendations or a middle way to find solutions to current problems. Conclusions or suggestions are
the final part which is a recommendation or result of the discussion obtained from collecting or
elaborating each argument from each person involved in the discussion. Following are the important
points from the conclusion:

• Contains conclusions of arguments from the pros and cons.

• Shows evaluation of the most effective arguments.

Example of discussion text

The debate surrounding infrastructure development and environmental conservation has sparked
intense discussion. Proponents argue that development projects create jobs, stimulate economic growth
and improve living standards. For instance, renewable energy investments generate employment
opportunities and reduce carbon emissions.

However, opponents emphasize the devastating environmental consequences, including deforestation,

pollution and climate change. The degradation of natural habitats threatens biodiversity and ecosystem
balance.

Striking a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability is crucial. Governments,
corporations and individuals must prioritize sustainable practices, invest in renewable energy and
implement eco-friendly policies. By adopting a holistic approach, we can ensure a prosperous future
without compromising the planet's well-being.Striking a balance between economic growth and
